Great game, great win. The defensive intensity (particularly in the first half) reminded me of the D we used to play in the Cal days (sans Camby). Loved the point guard battle between two outstanding players. Biggest play of the game was Noah baiting Yuri into committing his fourth foul thereby forcing TF to sit him during a crucial stretch. Big time, savvy play.

Maybe it was the "Bring Harvey with You" game, and everyone did.eldonabe wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 10:14 amnatwam2547 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 9:22 amIf there were 3500 people there, the Mullins Center holds 20,000.MakeMullinsGreatAgain wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 10:11 pm just under 3500 fans tonight - win the next two and I bet we get close to if not over 5000 for URI a week from Saturday.
Good bounceback win for the team. I know SLU is not living up to expectations so far this season, but still a good win regardless. I think the Olean game is an aberration. It's clear that it's tough to play up there, but it's also very fluky and it was on NYE after an 11 day layoff. Now if we go down to GW and lose by 20, we'll have some problems.
Clearly a make/miss game. Noah made some really nice shots, SLU missed a bunch of open 3's that teams like SBU and Umass-Lowell connected on. Don't really have to read much more into it than that.
There is no way in hell there were 3,500 people there unless about half of them were out in the concession are for the entire game.

I would say 3500 is ticket sales.. I have two season tix but often one or both go unused.

I’m guessing the number reflects ticket sales for the two games.

per Stu Durango, reliable reporter on SLU, Fred Thatch's injury is a torn ACL and he's out for the year and has played his last college game. He's been SLU's best defender. Pickett has been SLU's best consistent scorer, so the UMass win wasn't vs SLU's best. Of course, we didn't have Wildens and have seen more than our share of players forced to miss games. And sometimes it's not just the games missed, it takes another 1 or 2 to really be back.

This is probably correct since a ticket to the women's game was good for admission to the men's, and vice versa. I was in the building and guessed that attendance was around 3,000. The chairs on the side shown on TV (the side where the benches are) are not padded, and I think a lot of people choose to sit on the comfy padded side, so it can be a little deceiving when watching on TV.

Tough break for Thatch and SLU, you never want to see that, but this is a really strange situation to me. Didn't he get injured and hobble off and then come back in only to get injured again a few minutes later? Who cleared him? I'm not a doctor, so any insight would be welcome.bobolink wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 11:27 am per Stu Durango, reliable reporter on SLU, Fred Thatch's injury is a torn ACL and he's out for the year and has played his last college game. It's possible the ACL happened the 2nd time.

Maybe. He looked like he was in a ton of pain the first time he went down. That thing was probably hanging by a thread when they put him in again.

Not all ACL injuries are the same and some have no pain at all. My sister tore her ACL one morning while we were skiing and we then proceeded to ski the remainder of the day where she only had minor discomfort. It's possible he "walked it off" a bit, felt/wanted to feel better, and went back in the game. These kids are all competitors and will generally do and say, whatever it takes to get back on the floor.
Tragic for him nonetheless. But you do have to admire his grit to play. Similar to Noah making free throws on one foot...

An article from SLU says he felt OK after halftime, was jogging, and their team doctor cleared him to play.

I feel for the kid and I'm not trying to make light of the situation, but it's part of the game. It was almost 10 years to the day that Jesse Morgan did the same thing at SLU on a 10-3 Umass team which ended up being his last game in a Umass uniform. Totally changed the landscape of the season.

I went to the NIT final that year and I'll always look back on his three years at Umass fondly, but I'm over it being a "Homecoming". Jay does a great job on the broadcast, but he was waxing a little too poetic about that at times. It's been 15 years and he was here for 3 and he's been coming back here almost every year since taking the SLU job. Time to put that storyline to bed.
Re: Game 14, 2022-23: Saint Louis (1/4)
I have mixed feelings about that season cause that team was good enough to go to the NCAAs, plus that run ended with TF bolting for the OSU job. But who knows, maybe that was his last time coming here. SLU fans want him gone and given the expectations that team had going into the season, it's hard to blame them.
