Game 13, 2022-23: at St. Bonaventure (12/31)
The semi-annual trip to the frozen tundra.
Bona is 6-6 at the moment, struggling to find their identity after losing pretty much everyone from last season. They play at Northern Iowa tomorrow night on ESPN+.
Noah might be back for that one, but TBD for sure.

Good opening test for conference play. Comparing rosters and results so far, UMass looks to be the better team. But it’s never easy to win against the Bonnies, especially in Olean.
These are the types of games you need to win to be near the top of the conference.

I think the 4-5 day break away from each other will serve as a good reset for the team. If Noah plays and is 90% of his normal, this will be a W

I posted this in another thread. We have lost 9 straight games to them. Some in Amherst, some in Olean and some in the A10 tournament. If Noah is back at 100% this might be our best shot at a win in Olean in a long time. However, we need to play 40 minutes, not 15 like we did last night. As Mike said, they have a totally new roster, even more so than us. 6 transfers and 3 freshmen get most of the minutes.

^ ESPN has a predictor function and Warren Nolan also has one. I'm pretty sure they are based on some sort of analytics as they go out pretty far. Obviously, they can't take into account current performance, injuries, etc.
ESPN has is favored by .2 points with a 50.8% chance of winning.
Nolan has SBU favored by a point with a 54% chance of winning.
SBU is 6-6 but they are 5-1 at home. The home record in no surprise as they are always tough to beat in Olean.

Big game for the Bonnie’s tonight. Loss at Northern Iowa will put them at 6-7 with a 4 game losing streak. If Noah returns, Vegas could still have Umass a favorite in this one.

Two nights ago I watched a poor Siena team beat an equally poor St. Bonaventure team, and I thought to myself that UMass should have no trouble on the 31st, and then I watched that awful Dartmouth game last night. I really think that the Bonnies game on New Year's Eve will define the rest of the season for UMass.

They are not Vegas lines yet - I am riding Maz to some degree.Camby4Life wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 11:05 amWhere are you getting future vegas lines?
I look at Massey College basketball Ratings. Umass % chance of winning is below 50% in each of the next 2 games. GW is teetering at 52% but that will change obviously depending on the next to outcomes.

I'd say your crazy and then I remember the 2016-17 team and how they were a very similar 10-3 and opened up conference play against St. Bonaventure at home, and proceeded to lose by 12 and went 4-14 in conference play and DK got canned. So you have a solid point.bottom line wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 11:42 am Two nights ago I watched a poor Siena team beat an equally poor St. Bonaventure team, and I thought to myself that UMass should have no trouble on the 31st, and then I watched that awful Dartmouth game last night. It's still baffling to me that that team didn't do better. Clark, Pipkins, the 2 NOLA recruits, solid depth guys like Anderson, Lewis, Baldwin. And we all saw what Flowers turned into, albeit against worse competition.

And from the other side of his Maroon-yapper he also said he would not touch that game (betting) with a 10 foot pole.

A win here would a huge boost for all. Got to find a way.

My guess on St Bona Spread will be Umass -1.5
