KAEO Reggie (RJ) Luis
I can't believe that this kid doesn't have his own thread.
After watching him during the Mrytle Beach tourney, I have become a huge fan! Granted, it's just a few games but the kid is gonna be legit!
Unlimited/untapped potential at this point. Moves well off ball, quick defensive feet, and always seems to be around the ball... good handle and court awareness. Made more than his fair share of freshmen mistakes today but, clearly is more of an asset than a liability. He didn't start today but he was in at the end. And I would always bank on the adage of, it's not who starts but who is on the court at the end in close games.
If I were TJ Weeks, I would be concerned about my playing time...

although I don't blame you for wanting to bring him up. the off season, and now less than 2 weeks into the season, so much has happened, very much has been written.
TJ has way better FG % so far, and is at an amazing 56% on 3s vs. RJ's 40%. RJ has the length but has about twice as many turnovers/minute as TJ. I'd love to see RJ prove himself the better player than TJ, or even his equal, but doubt it will happen this year. Great to have them both. They probably won't be on the court at the same time too often.

Actually, he subbed in for Martin down the stretch. Then, when he took a shot without running clock, he got the most terrifying death stare from Frank.
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

Frank did a bit more than stare. He was a tad vocal in expressing his displeasure.

All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Speaking of the ‘off-season’, we haven’t heard from him lately.

Did anyone else find it weird that only about half the team clapped for "Frank Martin" at the very end of this video.
I'm wondering if RJ could not handle getting lit up by Frank. It looked like he was like he was awkwardly laughing it off a little in one of the huddles.

Uhmmm… what? Now we’re analyzing clapping?

Iceman, you are overanalyzing things. Young players (freshmen) get a bit shook up when they get yelled at by their coach. I've been to practice and Frank yells just as much at practice as he does in the games, maybe more. But while he yells, he also teaches and that's how players get better.
As for RJ, he's a potentially special talent. He'll make freshman mistakes but he'll learn from them and it won't take all that long.
Someone mentioned that TJ should be worried about his playing time. I doubt it. Nobody is averaging 27 minutes a game so the top 9 or so will all get their minutes. Also, TJ has been great the last 2 games. The beauty of this team (other than the suffocating D) is that different guys step up each game.

If he stays at Umass for 4 years, he will find himself on 1st or 2nd all Atlantic 10 team before he leaves.

I’m more interested in when he switches over to play quarterback and helps lead the football team to a 6-0 start in 2024.

I feel he should be starting over Martin. I think Martin definitely has a role on this team - maybe 4-5 minutes a half, but no way should he still be starting. Others have mentioned DD starting over Martin but I like DD coming off the bench as a high energy guy. Luis still makes some freshman mistakes but his upside is through the roof
