Game 5, 2022-23: vs Charlotte (11/20, Myrtle Beach Championship)

Post by MikeUMA » Thu Nov 17, 2022 11:22 pm

On Sunday, we'll be in the early session.
Either 10:30 AM start if it's the 3rd Place game, or 1:00 PM if it's the Championship.

So this will be against either Tulsa or Charlotte. Not much was expected of either team, but they both coasted to easy W's in their first games. Maybe one will be a surprise this year and having them on our schedule will look much better at the end of the year. Part of me wants Charlotte. I'll always have a bug up my butt for them. Obviously because of 2008, but also 2013. They lost by 1 at Charlotte and that was the year they were very much on the NCAA Tournament bubble and got a 2-seed in the NIT. We shot 6-16 from the FT line (Charlotte 16-26) and had the ball at the end of the game with a chance to win it but Chaz turned it over.

I suspect we’re pushing for Tulsa here? RPI and SOS standpoint.

I'm pulling for Tulsa cause they're the furthest team away. Charlotte might have some fans down there Sunday if they advance.

I don't give a flying flip who it is. Bring 'em on, this team is coming together and feeling good. Can't wait for Sunday!

Charlotte it is. They’re 4-0 with a few blowouts under their belt. They will certainly have home court advantage.

Charlotte is going to be pretty annoying on Sunday. We’ll have to make sure we don’t get caught up in their noise. They’ve got a few cocky players. Pretty decent dust up at the end against Tulsa. Kid from Tulsa took exception to a stare down after the game saving block and threw a bit of a punch in a scrum. I was hoping it would escalate so players would be ineligible Sunday.

They’ve got some scrap and they’ve got some size. 6’10” and 6’11” in the starting lineup. Khalifa Ks old school. Made some nice passes for a big. Folkes was doing a lot of staring and talking too throughout the second half.

Watched some of the last 5 minutes. That ending was as close as you can get to an actual fight with suspensions. End of the game with players and coaches leaving the bench added to the chaos. The Tulsa guy definitely snuck in a quick something that barely landed.

This game Sunday has the potential to be an old school defensive battle. Picture a Wisconsin/Purdue slow it down Big 10 style.

I would lke to see more of the lineup we saw to close the Murray St game. I think 8-9 man rotatation is what we should go with.

Leveque/Kante
Cross
Weeks
Diggins
Fernandes

6th Luis
7th Kante/Leveque
8th Gapare
9th Martin/Dominquez

I do not think Keon Thompson is ready to be playing key minutes. I would give him more minutes in second halves of games we are going to win.

Keon will have to get some time if you're starting the other 2 primary ball handlers.. I do like that starting 5 though
