it was nice to see signs of life from WL. i especially liked the few instances where he recognized that the outside shot wasnt going to happen, so he took a few steps in a went for the higher percentage shot. good awareness.

Very proud of the team. I think as each game passes the offense will begin to click more and more. Defensively, they may already be the top of the heap in the A10. Enjoy the holiday without losing focus and them come back and go on a run. No reason why this team cant be 10-2 or even 11-1 heading into conference play.

We are playing ten regularly, which I love. Two of the three not in that rotation are Gapare and Gianni. I assume that the third is Woodley returning at some point, but maybe Frank sees something from one of the walk-ons (we have three on the roster). Wouldn't that be nice.RagingCager wrote: ↑Sun Nov 20, 2022 6:27 pmWhen they interviewed Coach Martin, he expressed how proud he was of the guys, and how hard they have worked… he also mentioned that he has 3 more talented guys that he has to incorporate into the mix, including Gaspare…. the highly rated player from New Zealand.

Very good weekend for this team. It is still a work in progress, but off to a good start.
- Frank is still a psychopath, personally I love it, but I can see where that schtick may wear thin with players over the long run. It is also amusing to see some of the Umass fans who do not like it (for that, I know Frank is doing the right thing now!)
- It will be interesting to see how the rotation evolves. Not many top teams run 10 guys that many minutes. I am not saying it should be shortened, I don't know where I stand on that. As long as it it working who I am I to say?
- Someone needs to explain why his kid is getting so many minutes? When he is on the floor it is 4 on 5 on when they are on offense.
- If they win the next 2 I wonder how many people will be at the next home game on 12/5? I don't know the school schedule - when do finals start and when do they empty the campus?
While I still think it unlikely, they have a legit shot at a 10-2 non-conference??? It is a murderer's row of cupcakes until the Bonnies on new years eve, you would think they will drop one they really should not along the way. If you told me I can have 9-3 on November 1st, I would have taken that in a heartbeat.
The weak schedule is concerning, but that may be a PTSD byproduct of years of this program fucking up the weak schedule???

Missed the game yesterday, just watched it. Defensive pressure has been very consistent. It was nice to see the offense come a little easier, and it was more balanced. Have to finish on some of those inside looks, but these guys played very hard in this tourney, and deserve lots of praise for that effort. Frank pushes them hard, but they responded well. Good for this team, enjoy Thanksgiving, rest up, and hopefully we get a mostly filled Bill for support on the next home game

The schedule is weak in name only. We just played two (maybe three) legit teams in Myrtle, Towson is a tourney caliber team, and Hofstra and North Texas are more than solid mid-majors. The schedule is good enough for an at-large bid if we win the games and finish top four in the league.

I had this on the iPad while listening to the Pats on the radio so it was hard to follow... seemed like we had control but never really could put them away. I don't have any insight otherwise... just happy to see another win!

Hofstra and North Texas are good mid-majors that have had much more recent success than UMass. 10-2 would be a fantastic non-con and would put UMass on the NCAA bubble heading into conference play. I'll take 9-3. Expecting a split with Hofstra and UNT and we'll likely lose another game we should win.

Maybe I missed it but I thought Frank was only talking about Gapare and Gianni. Woodley has announced that he is taking this year off and I hope he comes back next year.Old Cage wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 8:15 am

Frank's kid is a better player than a lot of us are feeling. Remember Mike Babul? That's my comp to Brandon. He plays good D, gets rebounds and he's a good passer. He's our 2nd leading rebounder and has the 4th best A/TO ratio. I like him for 10-15 minutes a game. taking just 2 or 3 shots.
The other guy I'm starting to really like is Diggins. He played great D at the end of this game and he makes important baskets at the end of games. This may be the best team we have ever had from 6-12. We have obviously had better teams 1-5.

Sounds like I'm in the minority but if you look at other teams, I don't think our out of conference schedule is weak at all.
For example, Rutgers OOC schedule:
Columbia
Sacred Heart
UMass Lowell
Temple
Rider
Central Connecticut State
Bucknell
Coppin State

69 - I talked about three because the poster (Raging) wrote that Frank said three. I did not see the interview.69MG wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 10:44 amMaybe I missed it but I thought Frank was only talking about Gapare and Gianni. ^ I should have put his post in, but I was saving space. Anyhow, it's nice to have good things to talk about.

Completely disagree with your comparison. Mike Babul was a starter for a significantly better team and was All A10 Defensive Team for three (3) seasons. Also see that you chose not to mention the 17% FG percent for BMartin. Perhaps his turnover numbers are low as a result of taking bad shots instead of passing….69MG wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 10:44 amOld Cage wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 8:15 am

My take on Martin:
He's good at positioning and grabbing rebounds. He should focus on that and trying to improve on passing while limiting shots.

I need to see a lot more before we start talking NCAA tournament resume. Let's pump the brakes and be thankful they're winning games and building confidence early in the season.Upstate10 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 9:08 amThe schedule is weak in name only.
