Game 2, 2022-23: Towson (11/10)
Getting this started.
The dude who runs Rhody Vault and A-10 Vault on Twitter got an interview with Pat Skerry, the head coach at Towson.

They're very experienced and very physical. That's an absolutely brutal second game for a team with a new coach. I would caution people not to get overly concerned if we take an L there.

I would caution coach to have his players ready to win this one.

^You can say that for every single game. My point is that people sometimes have a flawed sense of which games will be difficult and which ones won't and that's largely based on name brand rather than actual roster talent.

Want to get an early look at Towson? They'll be on ESPN+ tomorrow at 1 PM as they take on Saint Joe in an exhibition game.

Re: Game 2, 2022-23: Towson (11/10)
thanks for the tip, Mike. Interesting matchup vs. St Joe's, although can't expect to learn much of these teams in an exhibition.
Striking statements in the article you linked:
-Towson has 3 of the 5 pre-season all-conference starters
-They have 10 returning players and 7 newcomers (?); one of the newcomers is a 4-star transfer from Seton Hall
-"The Tigers were unanimously chosen {as favorite for first place in CAA} after garnering 12 of the 13 first-place votes" (??)

If we win this game we just might be a tournament team..

In his preseason 100 & 1 rankings, CBS' Matt Norlander has Towson at 71: https://www.cbssports.com/college-baske ... 23-season/
This will be a big time early test.71 Towson
If you think Towson's too high, you haven't been paying attention. This is going to be one of the best Tigers teams ever, particularly after winning 25 games a season ago. Pat Skerry has a great core back comprised of Nicolas Timberlake, Cam Holden, Charles Thompson and Jason Gibson. They are veterans, they know how to win, they should be the CAA's best team with room to spare. The reason I nudged Towson up 10-12 spots higher than I initially intended was because of how well D-II transfer Sekou Sylla has adapted to new surroundings. He won NPOY at that level and is helping build this team into a Cinderella candidate come March.

Re: Game 2, 2022-23: Towson (11/10)
Watched the first half. Towson is definitely a fast team and does a nice job of covering on defense. They throw up a lot of 3's but didn't seem to hit very many (this IS preseason, after all). St. Joe's got behind early but made a nice run before the half. I don't know how the scrimmage ended score-wise. Towson will definitely be a challenge for the Minutemen.

Towson gave up 46 in the second half, and lost 78-76 at SJU. Cam Holden put up 25 & 12.

Re: Game 2, 2022-23: Towson (11/10)
I'm guilty of looking past CCSU and focusing on Towson even though I ventured down to New Britain in 2011 and watched them destroy us (Vinson, Sean Carter, Gurley, Morgan, Riley, Putney). It boggles my mind to this day.
Anyhow, we've heard the hype about Towson. 25-9 last year, return their top 4 scorers (includes their top 2 rebounders). They added 2 good transfers, Conway (6'1) who redshirted last year at Seton Hall and Russell (6'4) who averaged 7.9 points and 6.5 boards for SEMU while shooting 36% from 3.
I have my maroon colored glasses on. We're going to play defense this year and we're going to get rebounds. We have a size advantage over them and some really skilled players. I think we should beat them but we can't come out flat.

Re: Game 2, 2022-23: Towson (11/10)
Looks like Towson had to battle to beat a mediocre Albany team. The box score shows they got outrebounded but scored a lot of their points in the paint. I don't think those points will come so easily against UMass. Looking at their box score, Towson only played 6 guys. That would explain why they got beat in the 2nd half. Albany played a bunch of guys. Out of the 5 guys that scored for them, one guy is 6'7 and the rest are 6'4 or 6'5. If we don't play terrible we should really wear them down. Play hard.. Make shots.. Walk away with the win
Re: Game 2, 2022-23: Towson (11/10)
I think our depth is the 6th man this year. I realize it was CCSU last night, but not big dropoffs going to the bench. Plus if Cross is available thats a big plus. Wearing teams down with waves of guys is really going to help us. Lets go get it
Time to Win
Re: Game 2, 2022-23: Towson (11/10)
their top scorer, Timberlake, shot 41% on 3s last year with 78 made. Went 1 for 10 last night. If he had an average game, they 'd have beaten Albany easily. Do we have someone who stop 3s?

Re: Game 2, 2022-23: Towson (11/10)
I'm sure that will be a focus. I was just surprised they only played six guys, and they aren't that big. If we play hard and physical again, it should wear them down. Will be a tough game no matter what.
