Around the A-10 (2022-23)
Re: Around the A-10 (2022-23)
It's been a tough year for URI other than their win over Lowell. We've got them in Amherst on 1/14.
Re: Around the A-10 (2022-23)
Just looking at some conference stats. We'e ranked 4th in defense and 7th in offense. That's the best combined ranking in the league. Given that we're 7th in scoring, it's pretty amazing that our highest ranking scorer is Matt Cross at #23. Cross is also our leading rebounder, 12th in the league. And 8th in the league in FT%. Also 8th in the league for steals. Talk about an all around player! And check this out--ranking 4th in the league for shooting percentage is...Dyondre Domingquez!

Here's today's A10 scoreboard. Some really ugly losses for the league, including an SBU loss to a 4-7 Nothern Iowa team, a Davidson loss to 3-7 Northeastern and a LaSalle loss to 1-11 Lafayette. Yuck!

I know SBU lost all their players, McKillop retired and it's a transition year for URI. But what the hell has happened to our league?
Re: Around the A-10 (2022-23)
Fordham and Duquesne tried to sell their souls to the devil to do better but misread the contract and accidentally sold everyone else's ability to play basketball.natwam2547 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 11:24 pm I know SBU lost all their players, McKillop retired and it's a transition year for URI. Cross is so damn good. His hustle is on a level I don't know I've seen before. He's so determined to hit the deck for loose balls and get to the rim. But he's not just a hustle player, there's plenty of polish to his game as well. I hope that after bouncing around for a few years he finally feels like he's found a home here at UMass.uz2b-len wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 10:01 pm Just looking at some conference stats. During the Dartmouth game, the announcers commented how much his offensive game has changed from last year at UofL, where ~75% of his shots were 3 pointers to closer to 25% of his shots this year being 3’s. Love Martin’s focus on getting the ball into the paint and not just settling for 3’s.
Re: Around the A-10 (2022-23)
You have a great point about Cross. Watching the first half on Tuesday I was feeling that Cross might have been thinking "What have I gotten myself into? Nobody else on this team seems to give a shit". Thank goodness for the second half.Juice Stand wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 6:33 amCross is so damn good. ^ What I see from him at times is that he's really tough on himself. He knows he can do better at certain things and sometimes gives himself a good talking to. I believe he is really focused and competitive and constantly looking for ways to improve.

Agree about Cross. Crazy, but he’s already becoming one of my favs at UMass. Plays hard and is really good.

It’s rare that your junkyard dog is also your best scorer.
We’re lucky to have Cross. I think that he finally found his home at UMass.

Opening round of A15 games Wednesday will tell us how legit Duquesne and Fordham's records are. I suspect they'll come back down to earth.
Re: Around the A-10 (2022-23)
I don't ever remember seeing a team load up on home games against weak opponents like Fordham has done this year

at this point, is it safe to say the A10 is only getting the one auto bid? any shot someone can snag at an at-large?
