1. Matt Cross: I could watch that dude go for loose balls and tie-ups all day. Effort and energy. He's a little helter skelter driving to the hoop at times, but damn, he's a tough player
2. Speaking of tough, how about Noah Fernandes. This dude is one of the all time (yes, I said it) clutch and winning performers this school has seen. I hope he's ok. TJ said it best: “He’s a tough, I can’t cuss, but he’s a tough dude,” Weeks said. “I knew he was gonna hit those. I had no worry in my mind he was going to miss them.” (https://www.gazettenet.com/Umass-at-har ... n-49045245
3. Gapare: He has arrived folks. And we only saw a sliver of what he's capable of. His presence and athleticism changed this game and forced Frank's hand. He couldn't take him out of the game. Then he goes out there and hits the game winning shot and defended Ledlum on the baseline for the game-sealing turnover.

I'm proud of this team. That's outstanding effort and determination. Can't wait to get back in the Mullins Center and see them play again.

What a game. Great to see a lot of fans and Collective Members pregame at Charlie’s Kitchen.

We will be hosting a pregame event at the Student Prince prior to the 12/17 game and hope to see everyone there. Details to follow.

Go UMass!

^^ +1

I wasn’t able to watch as much as I would’ve liked but I was able to catch the last 2 minutes.

These guys are developing game toughness that will serve them well as the season progresses! 8)

What a fantastic experience Friday night. Not sure I've ever been to a game in a small gym like that with the crowd so engaged the whole game. Almost like a high school championship game, although the UMass fans were louder than any big HS game I've seen. I did go to the VCU game in 2014 but this was a different atmosphere in Laviette's. Really happy they pulled out the win. Couple thoughts:

- To pull out a game like that with Noah on the bench for the last couple minutes was very impressive. I was confused why Thompson was playing instead of Diggins, but it worked out. This might have been Diggins' worst game.
- Nothing more to add about Gapare, sky is the limit with him.
- I was really disappointed with Wildens and Kante for most of the game. Ledlum and the other bigs (10, 12, 22? I forget) dominated the paint in the first half. The interior D toughened up in the 2nd and that allowed the comeback. Ledlum is a load, so even more impressive that Gapare had some good D possessions on him. Wildens' dunk and 2 free throws were huge so he ended up being a factor. Kante's lackadaisical stretch at the end when he watched an airball go right to Harvard for an easy layup and then gave the ball away on the outlet was really bad. Let's hope we don't see that again.
- I don't care about Brandon starting, but his minutes should be situational. DD and Gapare are talented guys who can do a number of things well and they need to be getting the bulk of the minutes at the 3/4, along with Cross.
- I'd like to see more lineups without Kante or Wildens out there. Cross, DD, and Gapare are enough size to get by for stretch against most teams. That's a really dynamic lineup.

Granted it was offseason, but we didn't even know he had an arm injury until way after it happened. And the news before the season of all these guys who were banged up came out of nowhere. I doubt we'll get anything until game time if he's not playing.
