DK has had consistent success as an asst coach and knows how to do that job. The only thing that worries me is under the table stuff. There was some rumors of that stuff at the time of his departure.

I've always liked him as an assistant and he'll help bolster the recruiting under Frank. I don't really see a downside to this hire, seems pretty positive to me.

Like DK returning and despite the last few bad seasons, we had some great season with DK and he knows how to recruit!
It heals a lot of wounds with me and hoping for a fantastic year!!!
Go UMass!!

1. Basically everyone does that
2. NIL gets rid of that anyways

Nice to see UMass Basketball take care of one of it’s very own and allow Derek and his family to find a great landing
spot. Derek gave his blood, sweat and tears for UMass hoops and Frank Martin is his own man and has the backbone to do something out of the ordinary and bring Derek back.
Congratulations all around now let’s move on and get the job done and get some more quality recruits and get more fans back into the Mullins Center and play hard nosed UMass Basketball.

There were a handful of posters on here and around our community in general that spent the last ~5 years giving the supposed explanation as to why DK was fired and fired so quickly after his last game. There were some pretty serious charges levied at DK. And those same people blamed DK's supposed violations for Kelsey leaving.

It was bullshit then and it's clearly bullshit now. Sorry. Your guy McCall sucked. And Bamford was not being a good AD (at the time).

Welcome home Coach Kellogg.

Talk about a healing move. We are very lucky to have a coach of Frank Martin's caliber at the helm and now Bamford swallowed his pride and brought back DK to do what he does best. Recruit, sell UMass, and maybe offer a few tips to our point guards. It's a great move to win back those in our community who were less than pleased with how DK's firing was handled and the nightmare that was the McCall era. Some of those people are very prominent within UMass Athletics which probably played a role in Bamford sucking it up. I wouldn't be surprised if some big donations suddenly come in.

Credit all around. Bamford, Martin, DK. This is going to be an exciting era of UMass Basketball. And don't forget football camp is underway!

2022-2023 is just the start! :D

Not sure if I am the first, but I will crow now. Didn’t believe it. Still not convinced it will work, but time will tell

I’m a sucker for both a comeback story and a hometown kid makes good story. So, I’m pulling for Derek. Classy but smart move for FM. Now has 12+ years of HC experience on the bench with him.

I count 16 years of HC experience on our bench after Frank. Including Frank, 31 years of HC experience on our bench.

Sounds like I don't need to worry about the under the table stuff. Either it never happened or everyone does it :D

Welcome back Derek. I think this is an excellent hire by Martin.

Life comes at you fast, 7 weeks ago he was the HC of LIU. Happy he is back. Good for him to get a bit of a reset and good for the program to have someone like him on the staff. He never sold his house in Amherst and returned to the area every summer. He and his family must be happy to be back.

DK will be able to help with NIL I think. That is not a jab at him either.
