George Washington University Basketball Team
Re: George Washington University Basketball Team
All this talk about team names reminds me of the selection of team names for my fantasy league teams several decades ago. The San Fernando Llamas won a couple of football Stupor Bowls. I should have known better than using Mount Toby Kimballs for several unsuccessful hoops league seasons.

I'm sticking with Blue Fog. The other three are boring.

Ambassadors - Would probably cause confusion in DC with all the other Ambassadors already there.
Blue Fog - Makes me think of giant alien like monsters.. like a certain Stephen King novel. No thank you.
Revolutionaries - Lenin was considered a revolutionary... hard pass.
Sentinels - Well, those are robots that hunt down and exterminate mutants. By choosing Sentinels, not only are you not being inclusive to all kinds of beings, you'd also either start a war with the X-Men or get sued by Disney/Marvel... probably should avoid the optics on this one.

I like Blue Fog as well. Kind of reminds me of a jazz club moniker pre-WW2.
Re: George Washington University Basketball Team
Don't know why, but it seems to me the moniker, GW Blue Balls was overlooked.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.
Re: George Washington University Basketball Team
How about the "Wooden Teeth"?
Re: George Washington University Basketball Team
At least it's relevant to the school (they're in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood).Plano Minuteman wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 10:13 am I like Blue Fog as well. Kind of reminds me of a jazz club moniker pre-WW2.
Seemed to be a preferred one from the students at an informal straw poll of handing out pennants at a game with all the potential names on them.
Also lol - Washington didn't have wooden teeth. His dentures were mostly made from slaves' teeth. Definitely don't want to make reference to that in their name.

Yes I know. But, historical accuracy doesn’t matter for us either…what is a minutewoman? Lexi got used to have the minute maids….e_parade wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 12:19 pmAt least it's relevant to the school (they're in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood).Plano Minuteman wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 10:13 am I like Blue Fog as well. Dubbing themselves the “Minutewomen”, Prudence, who had been elected as the militia’s captain, and about 30-40 other townswomen dressed as men, shouldered muskets, wielded pitchforks, and marched to Jewett’s Bridge. It was here on the Nashua River that the “Prudence Wright Guard” planned to intimidate the approaching Redcoats. The courageous women successfully stopped the British, captured several soldiers, and intercepted vital dispatches regarding troop movements.
