2022-23 roster
Re: 2022-23 roster
I'll admit upfront that this is a stupid exercise, but sometimes I like stupid. Now that the roster has been finalized, I compared this year's roster to last year's. From a wins/losses perspective it doesn't mean much because the style of play will be different and it seems we will be playing some defense this year. The best example is losing Rich Kelly. Great scorer who had his problems on the defensive end. The players are in order of games started.
How many plusses and minuses do you see from last year to this year?
Rich K. (32) - Diggins
Buttrick (32) - Gapare
Noah (28) - Noah
Weeks (22) - Weeks
CJ (14) - Cross
Steadman (14) - Leveque
Jones (9) - Kante
DD (7) - DD
Garcia (0) - Keon I included Javohn even though he didn't start any games because he played a lot.
Others (games played):
Walker (9) - Gianni
Santos (10) - Luis)
Cairo (3) - Martin
Kolton (16) - Cronin

Re: 2022-23 roster
I'm most interested in seeing Gapare play, but also the 2 freshman guards, Keon & Luis. Keon sounds like a super tough kid, and I like the size Luis brings as a guard. We could have a nice tandem there

Re: 2022-23 roster
I like stupid too. Hence, I will join in. In almost all cases, new players are an upgrade. Diggins won't match Kelly in scoring (nobody's going to be hitting those half-court 3's) but will exceed him in defense. In some cases, the upgrades won't be apparent until 2-3 years from now (like Buttrick and Gapare), or maybe right away, who knows? I like the makeup of the team and am really excited for Monday to roll around.69MG wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 12:30 pm I'll admit upfront that this is a stupid exercise, but sometimes I like stupid. Rich kelly would have been good on this years team. Solid point guard. Good shooter. Good decision maker.

I think he is a different type of player that still obviously is a freshman that has to get used to the college game. If amd when he does though he could be a match-up nightmare at the 4.. He's not a center. He can shoot, pass, and has a handle. He runs and jumps like a guard.. not like the typical 6'10 guy in the A10.

Yeah you don’t want him being posted up on by bigs but he is going be a high level rim protector on help defense and offensively has a very unique skill setTheInsider wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 10:07 am I think he is a different type of player that still obviously is a freshman that has to get used to the college game. I think it might be Monday in China.
Re: 2022-23 roster
I hope so, but don't forget Marcus only played 20 mpg in his first season, shot under .500 from the floor, shot under .600 from the stripe, and only started 12 games. He was very raw at first and progressed on a monthly basis.
Gapare looks special but we need to be patient.

That's asking a lot from us.

I'm sure he will smoke some short slow white kids from CCSU tomorrow and someone will call him a lottery pick. Lol.
That said, it is easy to get excited about his raw skills.
