Another Uconn transfer - PG Rashool Diggins - top 58 recruit. would have 3 years of eligibility. Offered by Kansas and Nova - amongst 20 other P5 teams two years ago out of HS. Was going to visit Penn St but canceled to come visit Umass...could be good sign.

Also said to be visiting URI next.

Not sure if he was in doghouse but didn't get much play this year. Self and Wright don't miss on many guys so if they offered he has to be pretty damn good!

It's seems that we are hearing the same theme from various sports of ours that are now led by grumpy old men coaches. :)

Frederick Hanna III @FrederickHIII · 14m
K. Mitchell on Martin: “It’s good to have a coach actually coach you. I haven’t been coached in a while to be honest, personally myself I haven’t been coached in that way. I liked to be yelled at, I liked to be told what I did and how I did it wrong…he’s a coach I can play for”
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

I highly doubt he was purposely taking a shot at McCall, but boy is that a shot at McCall. Ouch.

That's an awesome quote. I agree with IV, but also, it's nice to see guys that like that kind of coaching. It's been my stance that while there is a perception that "kids these days" are soft and won't play for someone like Martin, there are plenty out there that thrive with a little tough love. Maybe this elevates Kolton in some way and he improves on some of his weaknesses (jump shots!).

Sage has mentioned it before: McCall wasn't a guy who would shout a MF bomb at someone. Some guys respond to that, some guys don't.

Frank Martin hires Allen Edwards who was a head coach at Wyoming for 4 seasons and played for Martin way back in his Miami days.
UM put out a page / press release on the hiring of Edwards:
https://umassathletics.com/news/2022/4/ ... coach.aspx

Weird start though:
"Massachusetts basketball head coach Frank Martin announced the addition of Allen Edwards, contingent upon the successful completion of a background check, as an associate head coach on his staff Thursday afternoon."

If this could fail on a bad background check, why not just wait until that's done to put out this release? Goodman and Rothstein both mentioned three days ago that we brought him on. So you're already three days in, at this point just sit on it 'til the check is done, then put out a release that doesn't trip on itself in the first sentence.

Very odd thing, I agree. It's almost like they used an internal memo to create the press release and didn't edit it appropriately.

Maybe playing for FM is similar to taking a class from the Sam Kinison character in Back to School.

Good teacher. He really seems to care. About what? I have no idea.

Kolton sort of clarifies his earlier comment that appeared to be a shot at McCall: https://twitter.com/KoltonMitchell/stat ... 9433853958

"this wasn’t meant to be directed at mccall or his staff. i just haven’t done some of the things we’ve been doing the past two weeks since @VRockHoops. the words were sharper than intended."

I really respect that Kolton could so honestly correct himself without getting defensive. It's just not something you hear that often on social media. Nowadays, my expectation is something like, "People weren't reading very carefully. If you took to think, you would know that's not what I meant."
