I like this guy Frank Martin already. I watched the video about the mysterious Asian nurse in the hospital then he was cured. Can't believe we had to suffer with the Tennessee twins McCall and Bell for all those years. Don't know about you guys, but I think we win a at least a couple games in football and hoops gets respectable again.

Leave Tennessee out of it. MM was Florida, DDBell was FSU.

They lose Umude, Wade, and Lykes and need three more guys to go away. My guess is 7'3'' Connor Vanover will be in the portal (think Djery Baptist).

good problem to have.

in the meantime in Amherst Kolton Mitchell is still on the roster and we must NEVER STOP RECRUITING
Dude what is your weird obsession with Kolton Mitchell?

I'm fine with Kolton sticking around if he wants to. If he's fine being the 12th or 13th guy that gets barely any playing time but is happy with that, and is a team-first guy, then I'm happy to have him. He's had plenty of opportunities to transfer, and he knows that there are guys ahead of him on the depth chart. Maybe he really supports his teammates and loves his professors and the education he's getting here. If he wants to stick around and be a defensive replacement/mentor to younger players, I'm happy to have him on the roster.

This conversation comes up with friends every so often…a team is allowed 13 scholarship players and 8 get true rotation minutes while 2 more will play in most games…that leaves 3 guys who are on scholarship who are not playing except in blowouts. If those players are a problem then your team chemistry can/will suffer. Kolten and John Buggs were perfect for those spots…give it all in practice while being ok with their role and supportive of their teammates…adding guys like that is important.

^ Exactly. Teams probably need 2 or 3 guys who are happy to help the team in practice and are supportive knowing they won't play much.

at the risk of turning this into a Kolton Mitchell thread, I have to say I hope he stays. Granted, if you told me only a few guys could stay, I'd hope he wasn't one of them. But he has great energy, pretty good rebounder and defender. I don't know his steals/40 minutes number, but it's likely higher than most. His FT% went for 28% as a frosh to 50% as soph and 75% as a junior. So next season he'll be 100% :) and for a few defensive possessions late in games with a bit of a lead, he'd be a reliable senior player. Despite the team's failures this past season, a good chunk of continuity could help. Bringing in ~5 or 6 new players will almost certainly happen. Going higher in number of new guys is usually too much change. They can't connect until the season is well along, and so far next season has some challenging opponents early on. And given Coach Martin's description of the kind of guys he wants (insists on), it seems almost impossibly hard to find that many, even with >1000 guys in the portal.

I think Kolton is the exact type of person coach wants on his roster.. not sure why people are so obsessed with the a guy at the end of the roster.. if you only play 8 or 9 tops.. what does replacing guy number 12 do for you.. especially if that guy is a great teammate with high character.

I think you're correct about Kolton's steals. He has a knack for getting in the passing lanes. In my observation, he has converted those opportunities into lay-ups more than any other player on the team.
