"IF" the dog won't have stopped to take a shit, he would have caught the rabbit.69MG wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 11:59 am Advance warning - this is going to be a stupid post but I've had a day to decompress and I'm tired of the doom and gloom (I realize that I have been a contributor),
The positives:
1. We see what TJ can bring us when healthy
2. Noah was healthy (He was nursing a sore wrist, that's why Rich was bringing the ball up so often. From Noah's grandmother who was sitting near me at the Duq. game.)
3. We only had 8 turnovers
4. Jones gives us energy and grit almost every game
The negatives:
1. Trent has to stop chucking 3's when he's not on. He has good days and bad days, so limit the shots on bad days.
2. I don't think we're going to get much from DD or Kolton. They are what they are.
3. Our interior defense is still bad. We were 10/29 (35%) on 2 point shots and they were 19/36 (53%).
The big WHAT IF?
1. I have to think Steadman was ailing. He's better than that.
2. Garcia is still not close to 100%.
3. CJ was out with a sore knee
4. Will Preston ever get back to the guy we saw 2 years ago?
How good might we be if our top 9 guys were all healthy (Noah, Rich, CJ, Trent, Steadman, Jones, Garcia, TJ, Santos)?

After the loss to Davidson, FanDuel now has UMass at 500-1 to win theA10 regular season. (dead last!)

Davidson is the only A10 team in the big dance in a way to early projection.
Re: Game 15, 2021-22: at Davidson (1/11)
It's hard to draw conclusions in this time of COVID.
People who are afraid of getting sick will stay out of indoor venues.
People who didn't get vaxxed or won't wear a mask can't get into many sites these days.
General fan apathy is always a problem as well. Also compounded by most games being available on stream these days.
But yes, it's a bummer to see when a team like Davidson is in first and on a big win streak.

McCall has talked about both of those things:PreecherJenkins wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 10:07 am looking at the box score two things really stuck out:
1. Trent shot 10 three-pointers. Made 2. This is why I hate 5th-year transfers coming into your program. They are there to get their stat line to try to get a pro contract. Since Thanksgiving Trent is shotting at a 37/24/69 clip. Pass the ball Trent, there is a reason why you are wide open.
- He felt like these guys were not the selfish "my stats" kind of players and would have a team first mentality. Whether that was coachspeak, or has regressed a bit, or was just a one-off last night, who knows.
- Sharing the ball. McCall wants more passes, less iso, higher assists.
Yeah, 10 3s from Trent is too many. He averaged less than half that, and he's a .300 shooter. It was a bad game for him and hopefully he'll play smarter this weekend.

This is a player out-of-control! Half of his shots are 3 point shots and he is shooting 30%. To put 10 3-pt shots in perspective, the top 2 in makes in UMass BB history only averaged 6.7 attempts per game (Pierre) and 6.1 attempts (Harris) and they shot significantly better than 30%!PreecherJenkins wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 10:07 am looking at the box score two things really stuck out:

^ Don't mean to be picky, but Monty Mack has the most makes and he averaged 7.4 attempts. But your point is well made. Opponents tend to leave Buttrick open at the 3 line and the temptation is too much for him.

This isn't entirely on Trent for taking too many shots. From what I've seen, they tend to be wide open looks, and we've seen him get hot from outside.
As a reminder, the coach has a useful tool that can control how many shots a player takes. It's called the bench.

Of course the coach does. Except no one seems scared of McCall esp when there is 3.5 bigs on the roster. Trent knows there is no one coming for his minutes.Juice Stand wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 6:37 am This isn't entirely on Trent for taking too many shots. Trent made a really good move in the first four minutes where he pump faked and got to 15 feet. I get the it’s not what the analytics guys want.

More of that, please! He did it one other time, but missed that attempt. More of this early on in games should help him, and the team, immensely. Not sure that will happen though.PreecherJenkins wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 9:09 pm
