Fordham scored 72 against Duq. on 1/12 and they haven't been over 70 since (hit 70 once on 1/18). That's all there is to say. If giving up 85 hastens the departure I guess I'm OK with it. The sooner the better. The team looked totally disorganized.

Neptune is the kind of diamond in the rough we need. His best player Antonio Daye quit over a month ago and he still trounced us.

I'm trying not to post about this game but I can't help myself. Let's talk about practice, yes practice. It's not conceivable that there hasn't been an emphasis on defense in practice so what the hell is going on? Maybe we should stop practicing and just go play. Or maybe we will get version 2 of
"These guys don't deserve to practice in the Champion's Center so I'm moving practice to The Cage".

Wednesday should be interesting.

So Preston Santos still got no PT after his strong finish in the VCU game?

McCall is a bonafide clown.

^ he did play in the first half. Had a few threes he missed on, but he was in the game for a bit.

We did not shoot the ball well last night. And they did. Basically that was the game

box score is interesting 6 of 29 from 3 . However our normal shooters both Kellys, Weeks etc were 2 for 10. Rich Kelly shot one three and weeks 2. Dominquez and Santos go 2 for 11. No adjustments to free our shooters. maybe thats not even in the offense. NO adjustments to double team the big guy who torched us down low. Saw zone briefly but again we suck at it. The energy i saw for this team was running after the Fordham guys. We had no answer and their coach drew a plan to take us away from our strength. What did McCall do.................. Double digit loss ......again!!!

I will reiterate, this UMass team is not a good shooting team. I've shown the numbers in other threads, and they've had bad shooting for well over a month, almost all of conference play. 6 of 29 from three last night, good for 20.7%, and when you look at their last two games, a combined 9 of 49 from three, 18.8%. This team does not shoot well, it does not attack the rim and finish well, it does not defend. Is there one thing that this team does well?

The offense assumes all can shoot the three and it seems McCall encourages it. The players shared the ball and got it to open players to shoot. Those players were open because Fordham left them open. Even at the end of the game when Steadman was shooting mid range jumpers, he was doing so because that was what Fordham allowed. In conference, the coaches have figured out how to limit shots from Weeks, Kelly and Kelley and even Buttrick to some degree. The players have very little fundamentals when going to the basket and get shots blocked more than any team I can remember. Or, they have to shoot a high degree of difficulty circus shot to get around a defender. No foot work. No head or ball fakes. All of that is on coaching.

Actually, he played in the first half and was part of the brick fest. Like most everyone, he looked bad.

We turned the ball over too much, we had 14 turnovers in the game. I have to watch the tape, but I don't know how great our ball movement was.
"I don't how great our ball movement was" ... come on man, really? Were you even at the game? You can't identify that in real time and communicate it to your players? That quote from McCall sounds so defeated, to not even have a sense of what ball movement was like. Give me a break.

I still believe in these players, but clearly they're not getting the in-game coaching, adjustments, direction that they need.

I take back every bad thing I said about MM, he's a freakin' genius.
“You can’t give up 85 points to a team that you know offensively hasn’t put up those types of numbers this year and expect to win,” Minutemen coach Matt McCall said.
