There are a few reasons this announcement makes sense. One major reason is if the players want to stay, they are now auditioning for a new coach. Almost everyone has said McCall and the players genuinely care about each other. So, allowing him a swan song makes sense, too.

Would make a lot more sense at this point if one of the assistants finish out the season.

I think Bamford feels it gives him a leg up to officially speed to candidates. While I am verypleased we are moving on I think it is somewhat disconcerting to officially let go of a coach with games to play. If we win the A10 tournament (very very unlikely) what does this look like.

Looks like the right decision. If letting the coach go fires the team up enough to win the tourney, then it proves the potential was there but MM couldn't get it done. I mean think about it, if the AD stirs the pot enough to get the team to respond, why couldn't MM? My guess is they pack it in

I bet he stays away.
At t VCU game, it appeared he was sitting in a court end seat toward the side opposite our bench...talking to one person to his left, with empty seats to his right.
I often wonder why t AD never reaches our to fans at t games and more often than not, sits with empty seats around him and never asks any fans to sit with him.
Of course, from my seats, I see someone who has never once engaged me in a single conversation.
He did agree to once, re an issue I had w t GIC, after I reached out to him...he was going to do that at t hoops game two days after I contacted him.
He ignored me at that game and every one since.
That was in December 2016.

My only in-person sighting of Bamford was at a George Mason hoops game, probably his second year. I asked a guy who was following him around (reminiscent of a Tattoo to his Mr. Roarke) if that was Bamford. His answer was a terse "Yes". I would have liked to say hello, but, much like SignMan's observations, it appeared that would be taking up too much of his time.

Such is life.

Just roll a ball out there and let them play..... that is pretty much all that has been going on anyways.

It will definitely be an interesting senior night tonight. Four seniors who we barely knew, Trent, Rich, Steady, and Greg Jones.

It's also a senior night for McCall as this will be his last home game. I wonder what the reception will be like when he's introduced after starting lineups.

^ I guess that clarifies the Greg Jones situation. The new coach is going to have to find a new frontcourt. I hope he has the Transfer Portal on speed dial, whoever he is.

WTF? UM's own official roster lists Jones as a Junior. Has it been wrong this whole time?

Personally I've never understood why he was (is) listed as a Jr. He played 2 full seasons at JMU and 1 at SCSU, so that should make him a senior, unless UM was already taking the bonus year into account.

Tim Kenney did have the greatest rant I think on a DK radio show about Xavier. Paraphrashing. I hate Xavier, I hate that blue, I hate the letter X I hate everything about that place. It was great. It is time for a real broadcasting group, if Jay (who is okay, nothing special but will be at UMass forever) is doing more TV games, they need to invest in a real radio guy. I like this Nathan kid who does games on MUA for the women.
