Nice to see DD playing well. Very excited to watch this team this year. We will have tons of depth. TJ, Gianni, Woodley, and Gapare aren't in the AIC scrimmage. Let's get this season started.

Defensive intensity at another level from recent years. Cross has been dominant, both scoring and passing. DD has been very active as well. Overall, good performance although hard to judge given the level of competition.

Based on the box score, it looks like things got sloppy for 5 minutes from that 16 minute mark on.

The UMass Athletics site has real time comprehensive stats. From the 1st half box score looks like a concerted effort to get the ball into the paint, with only 6 3ptrs taken. Nice to see the size advantage being a size advantage.

First, it was AIC, a team with no size, so let's be careful about making judgements. This is what I saw, taking the competition into account.

. Matt Cross can play. Excellent court sense and, man, is he a great passer.
. Kante looked very good near the basket. Tough and aggressive but I don't want to see him take another 3. He was better than Leveque.
. The 2 freshmen guards have skills. They have a chance to get decent minutes. A few freshmen mistakes, but pretty good for their first game.
. DD looked more confident and didn't get caught out of position like he did a lot last year. Overall a very good game from him.

. Wildens was somewhat underwhelming considering how much bigger he is than anyone on AIC. Not horrible, but he should have dominated.
. Diggins got in foul trouble early and didn't get going until late in the game. I'll give him an incomplete and I'm hoping for a lot more from him.
. Brandon played good D, but he is not going to provide much offense.
. I think Frank isn't sure what he has in Gianni. He put him in late in the game and he looked OK, but another incomplete.

No need to talk about Noah. We know what he can do and he looked good tonight.
Weeks sat out to rest his ankle. Gapare was there, but not dressed. He is TALL. He looked to be an inch taller than Wildens. If he's even close to what we expect and you add in TJ, we have a very deep roster.

Thanks for the update from what I heard aic played like 4 guards and not even a true big sometimes that can be tougher for a big man because your running around chasing on defense and the energy isn’t as great on offense to really bully guys. Also wildens game is not a post scorer like a tre mitchel he is a rim runner who and finisher who will dunk dump off passes and catch lobs etc occasionally he will drive on a guy from the mid to high post but I wouldn’t expect a ton of post moves from him. His offensive potential goes as far as his shot develop which at times looks like it has potential but of course they don’t show the misses in highlight clips.

24-6 is my new prediction (27-6 after winning conf tourny).. Cross will be first team A10 and could be player of the year (he is the best player we have had since Chaz). He just looks like a guy who knows how to play the game and is bigger and quicker than I thought he would be.

Not sure if Leveque and Kante will both start (maybe didnt last night because of the 4 gd lineup they faced). Cross, Diggins, and Fernandes should round out the lineup (maybe Weeks if they go with one big). Even though I am a fan of keeping rotation to 8 or 9 guys, I would say we will see 10 or 11.

Gapare will have time to get his feet wet but i expect him to be solid 7th man at least. Dominquez definitely looked better and the two other freshmen will contribute and will one day will make one hell of a starting guard tandem.

I hope Woodley can find a way to rejoin the team.

C'mon Maz... will you stop. I should not care about all your insane "predictions", but there is huge difference from what you would like to happen and what you actually expect to happen. You are going from 0 to 100MPH and basically skipping the acceleration part.

The top 4 or 5 teams in the conference are flat out better than UMass. An absolutely out of the park season for this roster is probably 20 (maybe 21) wins and that means everyone is healthy all season; they win at least 3 games that they are considered underdogs.

I am hoping for 19 wins but expect 17 or 18 and 5th or 6th in conference. Considering what we have watched the last few years, that kind of performance would be fantaastic.
