I think it was mentioned before, but there are both hockey and BB games on 12/8, which is a Thursday. That doesn't make a lot of sense as it relates to attendance.

^ I'm in F. UMass shoots at that basket in the 2nd half. Great view of Noah's long range bomb going thru the hoop at the end of the Rutgers game.

On Twitter, Skerry said he'd be up for a midnight game start if Frank provides the coffee and Dunkin' Donuts. Hopefully we will dunk more than their donuts.

Also, Killings is up for playing us in the Cage. Probably my favorite tweet ever. Would be cool to have a Rage in the Cage under Frank, even an exhibition. But, I know, Track is taking it over. Only my lower back is happy about this.

The A-10 had their fall meetings and put out a release today:
https://atlantic10.com/news/2022/9/14/a ... d-nil.aspx

Tucked inside:
a date shift for the men’s basketball championship was approved, building in a practice day for the four teams advancing to the semifinals and finals on Championship Selection Sunday.
So, the tourney start now shifts up to Tuesday. SLU's beat writer reports this takes effect immediately, with this March's event.

I'm assuming Barclays is going to be used for the practices on Friday, and they're not going to tear down the whole setup, hold a different event, just to put everything back up the next day.

As a team that makes the semis, you love it for the day of rest.
As a fan who might buy a session pass and book hotels, it sucks, because they just got you for one more night, in a very expensive city (in 23 and 24).

Hockey game vs Merrimack moved from Dec 8 to Dec 7. Now no conflict with hoops.

Hmmm… Agree - Will stop fans from making the trip. This year, UMass needs to finally make that step to Saturday semifinal game day again. Be one of the final four teams remaining in the conference tourney so they can play on the Saturday…

FYI on the Cage

Well, it looks like days as a basketball venue are over for the Curry Starr Hicks Cage. There is an Athletic Department, “Key Project on the Horizon” according to the Athletic Department Annual Report that involves the change over of the Cage to a Track & Field/Cross Country Training Center with an $8 million price tag and a $2 million naming gift to be announced in 2022 - 2023.
They don’t indicate a timetable for the project.
Almost made it to 100 years with basketball as it opened in 1931.

You'd have to put some money into the basketball parts of the Cage to host a game. Court is not safe, pretty much a consistent layer of dust on it. Roughly 20% of the bulbs are out in the scoreboard. Basketball lorckerrooms are pretty much non-existent. As cool as it would be to have one final showcase...can't see it happening.

I can't remember where this was mentioned, but I think it was our friend "Old Cage" who found this:
https://www.civitects.com/project/umass ... enovation/

I had noted this on the site back in April, so this has been under consideration for a bit already.

Is that AD Annual Report online somewhere, or did it get mailed out to big donors?

There's a thread about The Cage in the Other Sports forum... someone posted that link there, but I'm not sure if that was the first time it had been shared on the board.

We have added a Nov 1 exhibition vs AIC as a tuneup a week before the season starts.

I'm sure we will also add a closed scrimmage, as we usually do, though I'd prefer another exhibition so we can watch.

If we do the closed scrimmage option, I hope it is a D1 opponent. We need to be as prepared as possible for Colorado.
