Agree. I've never really watched too much womens hoop, but I enjoy watching this team. After the way they ended last year, they got my attention. Its a great ROSTER.They have good pg play, great wings, a star with Breen, and a very good front court. Good bench with depth. Look like they can play fast or slow it down and play inside. Thats what I think the men are missing, that ability to consistently pound it inside if thats what the game dictates

Floyd, that's a roster issue. Who do you blame for the lack of toughness/size? Guess what, the buck stops here (at the head coaches' desk). If you read my old posts, I complained often about our lack of size. A few posters came back and said that you don't need size to win in the A10. If you can't defend the paint, rebound and get inside baskets you are doomed to live and die by the 3. We are what we are.Floyd wrote: ↑Sun Dec 12, 2021 10:56 amAgree. I agree 69. Sometimes I wonder if they go after a specific type of big guy or just take what they can get for size. Besides what Tony brought with him, what big frontcourt guys has MM brought in besides this year? Trent is more of a wing, and Steadman hasn't got enough pt yet to see what his impact is. I like Jones' aggressiveness and toughness, but he's a bit undersized. Everyone else is a wing or pg

McCall needs to go there’s no question and I’ve been saying that on this board for upwards of 2 years now. Becker could potentially be the next Carvel where he’s established a program at a lesser school and now wants to move up. By your logic if Carvel was such a great coach why did no one hire him away from St Lawrence when he was there for 6 years? Becker is a northeast guy and has a good thing going at Vermont and might’ve just wanted to stay there for any number of reasons: family, less headaches than a bigger program ect. Maybe he wants to move up now.PreecherJenkins wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 11:24 pmWhat experienced coach is taking the umass job? Becker at Vermont. This board has a love affair for this dude. If he was so great why hasn’t anyone else hired him?Kelz626 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 8:45 pmYeah let’s fix the problem of hiring an inexperienced head coach who’s in over his head by hiring an even more inexperienced head coach who’s currently 1-7 on the season…fool proof planPreecherJenkins wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 8:34 pm Okay we know the money is there to buy out McCall since they won’t have to pay bell.
Bamford needs to buy em out this week. Save the program. Give Ricky the interim job and go hire d killings in March.
Who says no to this plan?
Killings is the guy who needs to be brought in next. They have rallying crying at Albany called mentality. Dk at least has a focus and ideology that’s more than we can say about Matthew McCall. (see below). Someone pls enlighten the room on what McCall has done? Given that Eli dude an incentive to get more students at a game by paying for someone’s spring break trip?
For me it’s going to start with building better men. I want to inspire these guys to be the best leaders they can become, and really produce guys that are going to impact communities.”
Killings is not the answer and won’t even be on Bamfords list, and for very good reason. UMass is not going to hope that a head coach that’s having a shitty first season in a lesser conference is gonna magically be the next Cal because he’s from the area. Could he be a great candidate in 5-6 years once he’s established himself? Absolutely. But Albany is a perfect place to learn how to be a head coach. UMass, as we’ve seen with McCall is not somewhere a coach can show up and “figure it out”. The A10 is not P5 but there is some pressure by fans and alums to win and after 3-5 years patience wears thin. If we’re going the young guy route it needs to be a guy like Travis who had a large amount of head coaching experience prior to UMass. The “who would want this job?” bit is lazy and completely untrue. There are plenty of coaches that would take this job for one reason or another
Re: Game 11, 2021-22: North Texas (12/11)
Becker turned down Duquesne the week before UMass hired McCall. Maybe he's a lifer in Vermont. Idk.

I still like King Rice for the job.
Re: Game 11, 2021-22: North Texas (12/11)
It’s possible that’s the case too. Although I’d say UMass is a much better job than Duquesne, who are perpetually lower half of the A10, pretty shitty arena, apathetic fan base and you’d have to relocate to Pittsburgh for your troubles. UMass has one of the better home arenas in the A10, the best practice facility, one of the better salaries (especially if you start having success as Kellogg got up to $1.1 million) and a passionate fan base. It could be like you say he’s perfectly content at Vermont, but if given the choice between UMass and Duquesne I think coaches would take UMass 100 out of 100 times

I doubt he'd be interested, but I'd be happy if Bruiser came back.

Idk I think Duquesne's a pretty good job. They're paying Dambrot north of $1M per year. They just built a brand new gym and I think their new practice facilities are probably as nice as ours. If they ever got nationally relevant they'd have the option of playing in PPG Paints Arena.
If he turned down that. I'd be happily surprised if he accepted UMass' offer. Don't think we can throw stones with A10 standings or fanbase apathy. Would be a great hire.

Completely agree. Bamford needs to earn his sweetheart extension by hiring a proven winner who can turn this around quickly. Miller, Pitino, hell, even Turgeon should be considered. This ship's going to sail into obscurity without some major pop.
Re: Game 11, 2021-22: North Texas (12/11)
Going to sail? I hate to say it but the ship HAS sailed. We need someone to come in, take the wheel, turn the ship around and bring it back in.DanaDingle3 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 12, 2021 2:47 pmThis ship's going to sail into obscurity without some major pop.

I lived in Vermont for 35 years, when he turned down the Duquesne job, he said he wanted to stay in Vermont. He has had a pretty good situation in Burlington, a great fan base, but Patrick Gym is pretty bad. Dr. J used to play there once a year. UVM has proposed a new arena for Hockey and Basketball, The Tarrant Center. However, I heard they have delayed construction again until they raise more money, so maybe things have changed.

I’d take Archie Miller in a heartbeat.

Miller would be a home run hire for this program. Also Bobby Hurley is worth considering if he gets fired at Arizona St. Need to make a splash with the next hire like we did in football with Don Brown.

I just think we need some adult supervision in this program. Someone with grey hair and a little wisdom. I don’t care where it comes from. We can’t have kids running the department and the basketball program. That’s why brown was a home run hire.
