Around the A-10 (2021-22)
Re: Around the A-10 (2021-22)
I don't think we'd be at risk of that. While the Colonial nickname came from the colonial army, as opposed to celebrating colonialism, it was an easy connection to make. Colonialism = bad.
Anything else in regards to the Revolutionary war might just be fine. One of the suggested names was the Revolutionaries, as a matter of fact.

It's because international students who grew up suffering from the impacts of colonialism weren't feeling very welcomed at the University. Why would they be impacted by "Minutemen" there? Reminders of bad first sexual encounters? Upset British monarchs?

I wouldn't have went to UMass if it was the 15-second-mene_parade wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 1:14 pmDid you skip over what I wrote there?

Great point so instead of GWU actually providing an education as to the history and context of the name.... just roll over in favor of ignorance and idiocy. Exactly what we wold expect from GW.e_parade wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 1:14 pmDid you skip over what I wrote there?

Re: Around the A-10 (2021-22)
There was another link within the article that led to the reasoning behind the first petition. Turns out it was more related to GW students in study abroad programs being advised to not wear anything that said "Colonials" on it while traveling to non-European countries (and probably specifically areas in Africa, India, and Southeast Asia). Kind of hard to scream education at people in their own country while you're just walking down the street, and quite possibly this was to avoid turning them off from wanting to attend GW. Hell the Philippines was an American Colony until the 1940s, so wearing "George Washington Colonials" walking around there would potentially lead to some bad for you.Jack wrote: ↑Fri Jun 17, 2022 6:48 amGreat point so instead of GWU actually providing an education as to the history and context of the name.... just roll over in favor of ignorance and idiocy. But more to the point: why should this upset any of us? This was an internal to the University led push to make a change about themselves. They have the freedom to do that, and we shouldn't feel the right to force them to stop. From everything I've been able to see, it all came from their own student population and wasn't an external force (like it was with the recent changes for the Indians and Redskins).
Re: Around the A-10 (2021-22)
will make 7 coaches new to the A10. So hard to figure how so many teams will do with such huge flux, both with coaches and players. And we don't even know how they'll schedule yet, as far as I know
Re: Around the A-10 (2021-22)
Four teams twice, ten teams once. I think there is only one protected rival but I could be wrong.

Bob McKillop is one of the most underrated coaches of all time. What a hell of a career.

Really nice get from URI picking up former Top 50 recruit Alex Tchikou. Was hoping that UMass looked into him as well.

Was he hurt last year? He only played in 3 games for a total of 5 minutes.inthescoop wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 11:57 am Really nice get from URI picking up former Top 50 recruit Alex Tchikou. Was hoping that UMass looked into him as well.
