Game 2, 2021-22: at Yale (11/12)
Re: Game 2, 2021-22: at Yale (11/12)
It weren’t pertty.
The announcers were talking about UMass’ roster and how hard it is to get everyone on the same page given all the new guys.
Yup…that’s why there’s a coach.
As the Bill Belichick would say to that coach, ‘Do your job!’

I was looking forward to the game at Davidson. If we play like we did last night they will kill us. They have several 3 point shooters.
Why do a lot of guys transfer? Because They are not that good and would have limited playing time if they stayed where they were. The exception are the grad students.

McCall should face a recall. I just can’t say enough about how the team plays without any apparent strategies except anyone can shoot the ball anytime from anywhere. So ok, if that is the “strategy” then you have to make damn sure at least 3 guys MOVE to get offensive rebounds because you aren’t usually going to shoot the ball well hoisting up threes and guarded midrange twos.
Bottom line is always that you will not ever win consistently without a very good and consistent D. Any team can play very good D with good coaching. Our D sucks and will be exposed against any decent team.

I've been surprised by his starting lineup in both games.
I thought he had better options than Cairo in game 1. I'm not criticizing Cairo, just that he wasn't the right choice. He wanted someone to guard Rogers and make him work on the defensive end (as stated by coach Jordan pre-game). Garcia would have been a better choice. Quicker and more of an offensive threat.
The thought process seemed right in game 2, start a bigger, agile player at the 4. After seeing game 1, why did he choose DD over Walker? Or go with Jones, who played his ass off in game 1 if you want bulk.
As has been mentioned a thousand times, he then sticks with guys who are having terrible games. Enough said about the coaching. Praying things get fixed for Monday.

After 2 games it looks like this team is a mishmash of players with different skill sets for different styles of play. It also looks like no one is playing for the team but for themselves. Noah in particular looks like he’s forcing shots simply for the sake of getting his shots. The substitution patterns by McCall have been horrible, every time you look up there’s someone at the scorers table. Also he has no feel for the game. Weeks and DD got way too many minutes despite being ice cold while CJ Kelly sits on the bench while making 3 of 4. Yale might be a solid team but this is a hot seat season for McCall and a loss like that might come back to haunt them in March

Good weekend for the Ivy League- Dartmouth just beat Georgetown 69-60. That will really piss off a lot of folks! So it isn't just UMASS....

We just need a coach who can, for lack of a better word, coach!

Yea it’s the Moneyball concept.. if he’s such a great hitter, then why doesn’t he hit good…
if he’s a goodcoach, why doesn’t he coach good…
I’d take Caliparis son or daughter right now over McCall.

Seton Hall beat Yale 80-44.
Our first thought is wowza, I wonder what the score would be if we played Seton Hall.

So when does the Fire Matt McCall thread start?
