So he could leave prep and he would be eligible to play this year? Does this happen often? Prep school raiding? Is this the next layer of NCAA madness 😠?

I don’t know. I don’t think it’s a common practice as most teams have their full rosters. I don’t even know if it’s something he/we are considering. I was just commenting that him showing up for summer session isn’t really any earlier than I expected.

It mainly happens in football they call them greyshirts. It has happened in basketball I just don't know how effective someone would be at that point. Shadeon Sharpe did it but never played at Kentucky. He redshirted and then went pro. Will Shaver did it at UNC and redshirted. Played a year then transferred.

How about HS raiding; WBB did that with Stefanie Kulesza and then barely played her when she arrived in January; 7 games - 11 minutes per game.

I think that was a touch different... she was already scheduled, or at least had the ability, to graduate early, and the covid situation meant she could get to UMass early and not lose any eligibility. I don't think "raiding" is an accurate term for that specific situation.

Have you consulted with her HS teammates about their description to losing their best player in the middle of the season. I would imagine that their plans for the season didn’t include losing one of the best players in the state.

Article from November 17th.
In the latest edition of ‘P.I. Pulse’, Pro Insight’s Zach Welch highlights his top 10(ish) takeaways after conducting a two-month tour of the top New England Prep School open gyms:
Lastly, South Kent’s Nate Guerengomba really drew attention with his dedication to expanding his game. The UMass commit is one of the best tough shot-makers in the region, but he took a step forward unlike any other on our tour. When the South Kent Prep team was subbed off to rest and allow the developmental team to play, he insisted on staying on. Instead of continuing to show off his scoring prowess, he used this additional playing time to focus on improving the little things in his game: screening, moving off-ball and communicating on defense. We were impressed with the initiative he showed and look forward to seeing him continue to round out his game.

West Virginia isn't the only team playing Saturday with a NEW Addition!

Well that's interesting news. Can't envision seeing him on the court on Saturday, but good to see for moving forward!

is he eligible as soon as Saturday? Semester end is Friday, so maybe. Exciting news. Wonderful to have him.

Lots of changes with the court ruling on 2-time transfers. A10 schools impacted include VCU (Bamisile), URI, GMU, and SLU. Also Siena and of course W. Virginia.

I'm not sure how much time he will get, but I'll bet he sees the court. My guess is that he's here and will practice today and tomorrow. We can use more depth up front against a very tall WVA team.

^ Barring injury, I'm sure he'll get some minutes!
