Did he ever get officially measured for his vertical leap?
I saw in one thread here that his was 44-46".
The reason I ask is because of this article where Keon Johnson shattered the combine vert with 48", the previous being from 2001 by Kenny Gregory of 45.5".

What was Dr. J's? Can anyone recall anyone else at UMass with otherworldly hops?

Re: Will Herndon's Vert
Jameel Pugh could jump through the roof, but probably not to the stars like Will and Julius. No idea what his vertical actually was.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

Jameel Pugh comes immediately to mind.
Edit: apparently more immediately to Innervision's mind

Re: Will Herndon's Vert
Unique is up there. Jameel, Andre Burks could get up, and way back I remember seeing a kid Craig Smith who I think was about 6-4 dunking 2 balls at once.
But Will was money on that backdoor lob they used to do. Totally change momentum in a heartbeat
But, there will always only be one Dr. Never saw him at UMass but was always mesmerized by his ability. Never be another Julius

Michael Wilson who was on those awesome Memphis teams in the 90s umass played, supposedly had a 52 inch vert.

Probably not in the same category as some mentioned but I remember Gaffney getting up there for dunks and boards. He had a giant wingspan.

Re: Will Herndon's Vert
Let's not forget he was 6'3ish and built like a linebacker. The difference between Will and some of the other mentioned is he would seem to just float and stay in the air longer than anyone else. The classic move was for him to jump center, win the tip and immediately break for the basket and finish off a half court ally-oop.
