Mike Mole passes
Re: Mike Mole passes
Berkman - Thank you.
That's quite an obit. My two cents - a story I have told here before: For the UMass basketball banquet in 1997 in Boston (yes, there was such a thing) the 1962 team was honored on the 35th anniversary of their NCAA tournament participation. Mike and I had the job of finding them. We did find everyone, except, of course, Kirk Leslie - the other star of the 62 team - who had died in a car accident. We set up a party a few hours before the banquet so that the guys would have time to reminisce. Between players and spouses and a few others, it was maybe 25 folks. Mike quietly paid for everything.
The guys that first brought UMass hoops out of the shadows were Doug Grutchfield ('61), Mike Mole and Kirk Leslie. I am saddened to learn about Mike's passing.

I never had a chance to meet Mike but in reading his obit it was obvious he was proud of his UMass days and went on to live a great life. May he RIP and thanks for all you did for UMass Basketball!

Re: Mike Mole passes
Mike Mole and Kirk Leslie were both Pittsfield HS and UMass backcourt mates Pretty good for one high school!

A life well lived. Rest in Peace, Mike.

My Dad played on the PHS basketball team with him and always spoke very highly about him as a player and person.
