My guess is that Buttrick's offensive role won't change whether he's the 4 or the 5 on the floor. Buttrick will be free to cut some of his bulk knowing that even if he has to defend opposing 5s some of the time, A10 centers are vastly smaller than B1G centers.

Re: KAEO: Trent Buttrick
as of now, stats say he's the biggest, or at least heaviest, player on next season's roster. But what little we've seen of him all says he's a 4. Good that he's had some experience as a 5 also, particularly with the team's lack of size. Who knows what out of conference opponents we'll see. Most A-10 teams have 2 or 3 bigs, but not many have huge centers (SLU and Dayton do, might be the only ones).

Well, if he does, I'll gladly buy you a beer at a game next season for believing.

I don’t expect it as his primary spot but as a 3rd option he is much better for for it than say Ronnie degray or DibajiUpstate10 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 11:33 am ^
After reading the 247 article about his transfer I’m not sure if Buttrick would have came here if McCall planned on using him at the 5. I think he could against most A10 teams but it seems like he wants to play what he sees as his real position.
Guess we’ll find out at some point

Here is my maroon glasses wearing idealism. Even though it didn’t work out for TB, his love of UMass is still there and has rubbed off on Tre. I can trick myself into seeing TB having a discussion where he says to Tre, I still love the school and would love to see you bring it to the NCAA even if I’m not there. DK for example still loves UMass, I’m sure there is no love lost for the AD in that relationship, though.
