Why is it a concern? We just need a 1 year commitment from him.inthescoop wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 10:00 pm Steadman started in Juco, then transferred to San Jose State, then transferred to Montana, and now he’s coming to UMass. That’s the only concern here.
This could low key be a great addition, and I’m optimistic about Steadman. His first year in the Mountain West he averaged 13.2ppg and 8.5rpg, that’s very good. Then he sat out a year and clearly didn’t think that Montana was the right fit for him, despite being a preseason first time all conference player.
ESPN also ranked him as the 49th best sit out 1 year transfer when he did make the move from SJSU to Montana; with all the players that transfer these days, that’s not a bad rank.

If we are hoping/expecting players like TJ, Noah and JG to take that next step, this is the perfect addition. For as excellent an offensive player Tre was, we relied too heavily on his contributions. Same with Carl. I'll take a 11/7 guy (just taking his averages from the last 2 years). That's perfect.

^ Agree, it's the perfect opportunity for our guards and wings/forwards to step up and shine.

Does this mean we are not seeking Pinckney anymore?
What are we going to do with the open scholarships?

Another underclass big would be great.
Re: KAEO: Michael Steadman
agreed, but 0.2 average is sort of the opposite of a ton. Too much to expect a C to average >2/game as Tre did, but I'm guessing almost all the A-10 centers averaged about 1. Of course, minutes played is a big factor. Would like a big who's a threat on the blocks and can kick it out given how many Minutemen can reliably hit 3s. Also saw nice cuts to the hoop, especially from Dibaji and Ronnie, and a good passer C, given the outside threat that Noah and TJ present, could be formidable.UMassfan_19 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 7:54 amCenters aren’t going pick up a ton assists in all systems especially ones where the game isn’t played through thembobolink wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 7:45 am Some of the best minutes for the Minutemen were about sharing the ball. Michael totaled 5 assists in his 20 games played, making me think there's something to be learned there. That said, he meets a need for size and experience, which are badly needed. Glad to have him.
Buttrick had more assists, although that could be the system.

Hypothetically speaking - Character issues, not bringing in their best effort to mold into a team. See players: Sy Chatman, Carte’are Gordon. But this is just worst case, not saying that it’ll transition into an issue.natwam2547 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 8:56 amWhy is it a concern? In doing so, one set of numbered jumped out. Fouls went up between his season at San Jose St. and MT:
SSJU: 31 games, 30.5 minutes, 2.5 fouls, 0 foul outs, 3.2 fouls/40
MT: 19 games, 22.6 minutes, 3.2 fouls, 3 foul outs, 5.6 fouls/40
I wonder what happened there to speak to the increase. He got in shape between the two seasons, which speaks contrary to the fouls increase. (Out of shape generally means fouling more.)
Minutes in those 3 DQs: 23, 17, 13
Also curious about his choice to leave Montana and the timing. He last played Feb 13, so not much of the season was left. However, they've had multiple departures over the past year. https://www.montanasports.com/sports/bi ... ll-program

Re: KAEO: Michael Steadman
It's possible with his lighter weight he was jumping more for blocks and as such getting called for more fouls? Maybe he is prone to falling for fakes in attempt to block shots? Completely spitballing here....

I feel like we have gone from Marcus Camby at the 5 to maybe Kit Rhymer all over again.
We will compete next season but it will be hard to get into the top 4 without serious improvement from guys like TJ and Preston.

Could be the system perhaps San Jose played zone and Montana played more man. I’m not to worried about fouls because you still have Matthew’s and buttrick so that’s 3 guys with good size who can give you minutes at the 5. Vs a hobbled gasperini and then going small with Dibaji dyondre or degray at the 5

Didn't we go from Marcus Camby to Lari Ketner?
