Fire Ryan Bamford

^ I've seen nothing to indicate that Cox is a better coach than McCall.

^ He's not, but at least his hiring made sense. He was one of the guys who helped elevate the program, along with Hurley.
Walt Bell, and to a lesser extent, Matt McCall made a lot less sense for hires. If we can get a skinny suit, brown shoes and a shoebox full of notes, plans, and diagrams for dennisdent, we might have a leading candidate to take over the football program.

A mature adult doesn’t prep for a player everyone knows isn’t playing and then admits it.dennisdent wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 3:01 pmSo you know Cox personally? At least he was really good player at W&M and not the water boy at UF...UMassfan_19 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 2:19 pmHe inherited a much better program from Hurley I wouldn’t consider Cox a mature adult tbhdennisdent wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 12:42 pm
So? Cox is a better coach then McCall (which isn't saying much)...He has a winning record at URI, and two out of three winning seasons--something that McCall hasn't had UMass.
Re: Fire Ryan Bamford
Cox wasn't as much hired for the job as he was promoted in the hopes of keeping some of his predecessor's success going. Same as how Bruiser was promoted in 1996.UMassfan_19 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 12:32 pmHe hired Cox who famously prepared his team for a player the whole world knew was injureddennisdent wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 10:59 am I would almost guarantee that Thorr would never had hired, much less, interviewed McCall or Bell! He hires mature adults...

Please NO!!! One has been enough for me! You left out from the South and no connection to the Northeast! But they are good to hang out with at the Longmeadow Country Club with their young families, unlike grumpy old Whip who just wanted to play golf and drink some beers with the boys.DanaDingle3 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 4:15 pm ^ He's not, but at least his hiring made sense. Re: Fire Ryan Bamford
When is Bamford's contract up? His email to me indicated that he was good with the football team and Bell is "meeting benchmarks" blah blah blah.
Re: Fire Ryan Bamford
Right!!!! Let's get rid of the "old" guy (was he 60 at the time) and his 4-8 records and almost beat Tennessee to get a young clueless whippersnapper who is going to go 1-27 and probably NOT get fired.dennisdent wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 9:15 pmPlease NO!!! Re: Fire Ryan Bamford
Hate to tell you guys this but Bamford's not going anywhere until he gets a better job and Bell will probably be here for his full 5 year contract. It makes no sense but the fix is in.

Re: Fire Ryan Bamford
The extension he got in 2017 puts him as being employed until April 26, 2022. We'll certainly be finding out soon enough on all of this.

In all seriousness, those who want Bamford and Bell (and McCall) gone should hope that Bamford's the first to go.
We do NOT want an AD on the way out to lead a coaching search.

I think that would have been reported, no? The extension he got then was reported. The pay cut due to Covid was reported.
With that said, the State page shows that his base pay since 2018 has been above that $300k figure (ranges from $311-381k) that the 2017 article reports, so who knows I guess.

Looks like Bamford's been extended to at least 2024 -- https://twitter.com/FightMA247/status/1 ... 7079604229
