Help with old game info
Help with old game info
Does anyone happen to know or remember a game in 1978 or 1979 when UMass players got in a tangle with I believe URI and the game ball disappeared? The game ending free throws were shot with a very old ball. I am ready to share a confession but I need the details first. BTW it was written up in the New York Times a few days later.

Does this game sound familiar? Both benches cleared.

That was the game, the Pitt (Sam Clancy) -UM (Curtis Phauls & sister) beach clearer was the next year. That on was NOT a packed house.

for some strange reason, Curtis remains one of my favorite players. I guess because he was a good player, surrounded by mediocre ones, who did his best for us.

All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Curtis was pretty good. Some of the old writeups from his high school days in NYC put him up there with other all time legends. Unfortunately those UMass teams were not very good, but Curtis could play

Nice work Harbo! It was the URI game 2/6/1979. I’ll track down the NYT write up.
