They would cover him this year but JG is the kind of player who is solid every year and then is A10 POY good his senior year. Kid is a stud.

This is a bad loss as DeGray has chance to be real good. Looks like the starting 5 may be the 4 transfers and Fernandes.. unless we get another big.

Being this late in the game he must already know where hes going. Maybe TB got a job somewhere and is taking anyone he can.

This Transfer Portal is really messing college basketball up!!! I feel bad for the high school seniors that worked extremely hard to become division 1 basketball players... They get over looked for the 2,000 players that’s in the portal

This is a big hit. Ronnie came in as a freshman and immediately looked comfortable on the floor. He can shoot, knows where to be, rebounded, and seemed like an overall heady and mature player for a freshman. I always thought this would be a possibility since he's from out west, but damn, this is a big hit to the roster.

Purely speculation but I agree that you have a destination lined up if you’re entering the portal this late in the game. Too many other good players in the portal to just jump in blind.

It sucks that we don’t get to see these talented freshmen develop over the years. Ronnie has a lot of offensive talent, but he has a long way to go on the defensive end.

IMO, McCall’s best chance to put a winner on the court this year is to develop an identity on the defensive end. You have 3 really good wing defenders in Preston, Cairo, and Dibaji. Not sure what the new guys can bring on D, but they need Steadman to be a defensive presence, unless they can fill Ronnie’s spot with a rebounder/shot blocker. Point is, Ronnie got benched a lot because of defensive deficiency and MM doesn’t have the luxury to let guys learn from mistakes on the court this year.

DeGray, while talented, wasn't a particularly good fit. He's effective from 15ft and in, but he's not really much of a deep threat. His rebounding is mediocre at best, but the biggest problem is, like you said, his defense. He doesn't make sense on a team that wants to run (and press), and take a lot of 3's. Now, all that being said, he was only a freshman... while I'm doubtful his rebounding and defense will improve all that much in the future, his 3pt shooting definitely could.

Garcia, if he leaves, would be a big blow mainly because of his "potential" on offense, and his defense. In conference play, he was one of our best defenders, but one of our worst offensive players, and rather surprisingly the worst rebounder if you exclude walk-ons. Where Ronnie is already quite polished, Garcia still seems to have a lot of room for growth.

I'm really liking the idea of replacing DeGray's minutes w/ more minutes for Preston/Cairo/Dibaji.

Brutal transfer here. Something has changed in the last few weeks.

I'm not sure it's a "Brutal" transfer. It hurts because now we only have the 2 transfers and Dibaji to fill the 4/5.. Gonna need a guy like Preston to step up and play some 4.. Problem is I agree something has changed and there may be more to go.

DeGray never really wanted to be here. He declined our offer and returned for another year of prep in 2019, hoping to do "better."

We were not a good rebounding team to begin with and losing our 2 best rebounders Tre and DeGray, certainly does not help.
