^ I could be wrong here, but I believe his pre-season calculations/rankings are done differently than his in-season ones.

They're not ridiculous. UMass has a very favorable schedule - thus resulting in a strong W/L prediction while being ranked 107th (vs 118 LY). Statistically speaking, Carl Pierre, Ronnie DeGray, and Mark Gasperini were not particularly good players, and Rich Kelly, CJ Kelly, & Michael Steadman were actually better. Tre Mitchell was very good, so that's definitely a loss, but with a number of returnees who are viewed rather favorably by Kenpom metrics, you get a fringe top 100 team.

Hopefully we get some reports out of the scrimmage today. I know they dont mean much but I feel like any info is good this time of year.

^ Now that I have dismissed football from my attention span, I want more BB news. Anything on the scrimmage?

Hopefully DD and Dibaji will be convinced to spend most of their playing time within 10 feet of the basket to help out with rebounding and defense and refrain from taking 3's (15% between the two of them). We have plenty of wing players who can chuck up 3's. They will be much needed assets if they keep to their roles.

by who, we don't have any media covering any of these teams day to day. Kyle Garwhatever, seems to only care about hockey. Def. yearn for Harry Potter and the others.

Kyle Grabowski and others in the media, professional or Collegian or otherwise, aren't allowed to report on scrimmages. I don't think they're even allowed in the door. Team personnel only.

^
I am aware, but they normally get a scoop the day of or the day after. Last year was bad with coverage but it was all zoom so he could get away with not being there. Fans are back, and UMass has no media coverage outside the student paper. I am sure i'll have a txt from Dewey in 10 minutes but it is not good and kills interest.

McCall and Ricky Harris are the guest speakers at this week's Sports Luncheon. I can't make it this week. If anyone goes, please give a report if anything noteworthy is said. Need some hoops news NOW!!!

Just LOVE that Ricky is back here. Great player, great kid, and I really believe he loves UMass. Hopefully he has some good connections with the talent pool in the Baltimore area that we can tap into

Hi Mike, do you still get a press pass?

^ When I request one, yes, but the amount of games I get to these days is a small fraction of what I used to do in the past. Not for lack of interest, just family considerations. Had kids in 2009 and 2013.
