Game 13, 2020-21: at Saint Louis (3/1)
Game 13, 2020-21: at Saint Louis (3/1)
Good God. Game 13 is the regular season finale. This past year has been one strange trip.
Monday at SLU, 6 PM Eastern on CBS SN
Very simple. Win that and we lock a double-bye for the A-10 Tourney, doesn't matter what anyone else does.
But - we could still know before then how much it matters. If Richmond wins at SLU tonight (7 PM Eastern on ESPN2), and VCU beats Davidson (Saturday 2 PM on ESPNU), we still clinch a double-bye.
Triple-overtime between UR and SLU tonight would be nice. Report out of Richmond says Grant Golden will play with that jammed finger. Preview:

I feel like Hasahn French has been at SLU forever now.
What's the injury report here.. I'm guessing too early to tell?

^ If you mean a UMass injury report, it looks good. MM said earlier today that there are no minute restrictions for Tre or Noah against SLU.

I feel like he's been around forever too and here's an interesting thought...he played for TB at Commonwealth Academy...Umass could be a top 25 team next year (I said could) - would French consider coming to Umass as a grad transfer? I looked at 5 different NBA mock drafts and not one had him being drafted, so it's either another year in college or go overseas and play. I have no idea what the outlook is for St. Louis is next year, assume pretty good so if he was going to stay in college he'd probably stay there, but damn he would look good on this team.inthescoop wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 11:04 pm I feel like Hasahn French has been at SLU forever now.

SLU started their ginormous center (Bell, 6'11" 270 lbs.) with French at the 4, where he proceeded to score the first 8 points of the game before Richmond could try to adjust. And their adjustment only worked because (a) Bell can't go very long, and (b) SLU didn't hit outside shots early so Richmond could send double-teams. SLU has a lot of options. Likely will require quick responses from MM

I don't think you can transfer within conference without the approval of your previous school. Not likely that would happen.jrdupe wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 7:58 amI feel like he's been around forever too and here's an interesting thought...he played for TB at Commonwealth Academy...Umass could be a top 25 team next year (I said could) - would French consider coming to Umass as a grad transfer? With Davidson beating VCU today, the only way we get a double bye is to beat SLU. I kind of like it. Win this game and go into the tournament with confidence instead of backing in.
We split with them last year and both games were close so I feel we can hang with them.

Bell started both games against us last year but he wasn't all that effective. His minutes have dropped this year to 8.4 from 14.5 last year. SLU has used Linssen (6'8, 255) more than Bell this year. I wonder if MM will use Ronnie to guard French to keep Tre out of foul trouble? It's a difficult assignment but Ronnie is pretty tough and he doesn't seem to back down from challenges.

I think we are owed a win here from the basketball gods. Remember when Jesse the Takeover Morgan blew his knee out at SLU . Turned that promising season upside down. Let’s do the same thing to them on Monday. Then run the table in Richmond!

I don't have a lot of good memories as a UMass fan against SLU. Aside from Carl Pierre's "soft as summer rain" game winner last year, SLU has been a bad opponent for us, and really some heart breakers. For a trip down nightmare lane: https://umasshoops.com/wiki/doku.php?id ... t_st_louis
Before last year's win, we had lost 5 in a row to Travis Ford's squad. 6-14 series record vs these guys.
2018: Blown out on Marcus Camby night
2017: The horrendous foul-fest. 64 personal fouls and 55 FTA for SLU!
2014: Jordair freakin' Jett
2013: Jesse Morgan blows out his knee
2007: SLU takes us off the bubble in the A10's
1998: First round NCAA exit
There's been some discussion about whether we should be rooting for a win or a loss for seeding purposes and lining up our tournament opponent. F that. I want to see UMass win. In a crazy upside down year with pauses galore, UMass has had more to deal with than most programs. I want these players to win, beat SLU, get some confidence and go to the A10s hungry.

I'm with you Juice...a win over SLU on Monday will give the team the confidence that they can beat anyone in the tourney. A loss and they go into the tourney with all kinds of questions...are they still rusty, are Tre and Fernades healthy, etc...I think a win Monday proves they have shaken off the rust and a double bye with extra practice time will be ideal.

a very mini. Holloway was 6'10 listed at 310 where he was closer to 350-380
