Well this thread gets a little more interesting now. I don't know if Bamford will move on from McCall now that Tre has announced his intention to transfer, but for crying out loud, McCall's ability to keep players on the roster for more than a year or two is an absolute failure. I still think the financial issues facing the department are a major roadblock from canning the coach, so I don't know if it will happen, but I'm officially on the fire McCall train. You have to create an atmosphere and culture that players want to be involved in, and clearly he isn't able to do that. Every year feels like a reset with him.

I'm all in on John Becker. 52 years old, from CT, and has had UVM at the top of the America East standings for the last five years, never finished lower than 3rd. And his recruiting is fine: Anthony Lamb just played in an NBA game the other night. Not a G-League game, not a NBA preseason game, a real NBA game. I don't think we can say that about a former UMass player since who, Gary Forbes?

You can certainly pay McCall not to coach if they're going to pay him to coach. Either way it's in the budget. They'd probably have to elevate TB and backload the contract. Without a cash infusion, doubtful they'll go in another direction involving a third-party now. What a mess.

I'll be interested to see how Shrewsberry does with PSU.

Things aren't going very well for Cal at UK. Time to come home. We know the family loved it in Amherst. He's got more money than he knows what to do with so he might give us a break and come at a discount. Yes, I'm grasping at straws.

Here's a legit person worth a look. Archie Miller just got fired at Indiana. He did a great job at Dayton and his record at Indiana wasn't horrible, they just have very high expectations.

Would be a no brainer hire for any team in the A-10 looking for a coach.

Miller buyout was 10 million. Looks like the pandemic doesn’t stop Indiana. Meanwhile in MA we can’t come up with a million to get rid of MM.

According to Matt Vautour's twitter "Sources: Tre Mitchell's decision to enter the transfer portal isn't changing Matt McCall's status. He'll still be the coach in 2021-22". Unfortunate.

This isn't the worst option out there, and it would be preferable to another year of McCall that's inevitably going to fail. But if UMass has the money, there are other options I'd prefer, i.e. Archie Miller.

I would LOVE it if UMass hired Archie Miller. Everyone keeps telling me no, and I know that I just posted that McCall is likely going to be retained, but it just makes TOO much sense.

Sad. Micah Shrewsberry the guy we should have hired the year we hired McCall just got the job at Penn State today. He would have been a good hire then, and now.
