COVID hit Mason too, they lost 6 games, but have resumed starting with VMI yesterday. A not very impressive 3-1 record so far:
W 66-65 over Queens (University of Charlotte, D2), in DC.
L 77-67 to Belmont, in DC - Out of the Ohio Valley, Belmont was tabbed to finish 3rd out of their 12.
W 84-70 over Howard, in DC - Howard was tabbed 5th out of 11 in the MEAC.
^ all of those in late November
W 68-66 over VMI, at home in Fairfax, yesterday - VMI was tabbed 9th out of 10 in the SoCon
They have these before us:
Towson, tomorrow at 4
Norfolk State, Saturday at 4
both at home in Fairfax
The A-10 media picked Mason to finish 10th.
So far their stat leader is Jordan Miller with an even 20.0 ppg, and 7.0 rpg. Shooting well at 56% from the floor and 3. More to come after they play their next 2.
Mason returns most of their core from last season, the one exception being Justin Kier (9.6 ppg).
Last season, we split the home and home, each winning at home.
- Lost 73-63 on 1/22. Up and down game, as UM only manages 8 points in the first 12 minutes. Got hot and built a 40-31 lead, only to allow a 28-9 run over the next 9:33 to lose any chance. Pierre and Tre (14 & 12) do their part offensively, but East shoots 1-8, Keon 2-8, and no one else steps in with meaningful points. UM loses the glass and the turnover margin, and GMU's Javon Greene hits more FTs (13) than all of UM combined (11).
- Won 69-67 on 2/9. UM built a 66-52 lead with 5:21 to play, then fell asleep and allowed Mason to tie it at 66 with 1:23 left. Santos saves it with a block and rebound late, topping off his career high scoring day. Other solid games from Tre (7-10 FG), East (6-7), Baptiste (5-7).
