Re: 2020-21 Atlantic 10 season
Well, now we have to beat the team that beat the team that easily beat us. Exciting game between Richmond and SLU - Richmond made a big comeback and lost it in the last minute. Not feeling good about us being in the top 4. Have to win this one.
Re: 2020-21 Atlantic 10 season
I watched the second half of UR-SLU. It was a really high quality game. Until UR fell apart in the last few minutes. As we know, the transitive law doesn't apply to game outcomes, but especially in this case how we did against UR after our long layoff is hardly an indicator of how we will do against SLU with a week of practice. That said, I'm not as attached to finishing in the top four as I would be in a normal season. I think playing on Thursday is actually our best ticket to winning in the quarter-final round. We still will have only two games played in at least 3 weeks when we get to the tournament. We could still be very rusty. Better to shake of some of that rust against a lesser opponent than play one of the top teams right away. Especially if we show against SLU that we're still not ready. Hope this line of thinking lowers some cardiac stress Monday night. IMHO it's more stressful to watch those games than to play them.

Kinda agree len. Playing more games right now might be better since we've played so few. Should be fresh and hungry to play, and the team has shown to play better with more action. Love to see them catch fire and play really well for the seasons end

Actually, that makes sense. The more games, the better.

This is a really good point, uz2b-len, although I'm not sure about the last sentence. Imagine us, the umass hoops posters, telling the team we're exposed to more mental and emotional pressure than them. Wonder if they'd feel bad for us.uz2b-len wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 6:21 am I watched the second half of UR-SLU. It was a really high quality game. Until UR fell apart in the last few minutes. Sooooo if I we win Monday I’m 99% present sure we will be the 3 seed and George Mason will be the 6. So we would play GMU or La Salle/Fordham in the quarters.

That's why I think we could be better off losing to SLU. Then we would play Thursday against one of the cellar-dwellers and at least have another game under our belt, before we play a good team.

Wait now I think that I was wrong. Who knows. Fuck it we’ll find out Monday night haha
Re: 2020-21 Atlantic 10 season
without the double bye, advancing to the finals requires playing 4 games in 6 days and winning the last 3 in a row on consecutive days. A win Monday changes it to 3 games in 6 days and just 2 consecutive wins in Richmond. probably about 1 in a million chance either way, but that's the goal.
Re: 2020-21 Atlantic 10 season
We would play Mason if we lost at SLU and nothing else changed. But other things could change. Believe it or not, there are other games on Monday besides our guys at SLU. Richmond could be knocked down in the standings a few places if they lose at home to St Joe's. Dayton could climb if they win at SBU. So it's just not a done deal as yet.
edit: Actually, looking at Monday's games, I realized that SLU will likely not get the double-bye even if they defeat us. Because Richmond most likely will beat St Joe's and go to 7-4. Davidson also sits at 7-4, so they will get the #3 and #4 seeds even if SLU wins over us. I hope SLU realizes this and is properly discouraged. Wait! I don't because I want them to win. No, I can't possibly want that , it's against my religion. But... But... But...

Re: 2020-21 Atlantic 10 season
nice chart from "SBUnfurled" twitter within the Collegian article shows odds for tournament seedings based on tonight's results. A UMass win would give us the #3 seed, which would mean a next game Friday vs the winner of #6 vs the Game 2 winner (see below). #6 can be GMU, Richmond or Dayton. GMU is by far the most likely to be #6. A UMass loss tonight most likely drops us to #6, which means a next game Thursday vs. Game 2 winner. Game 2 is Wednesday's La Salle-Fordham game. If UMass plays and wins Thursday, it would most likely set up UMass vs Richmond Friday (Richmond coming off the double-bye).
Only 7 of the 14 teams are locked into their tournament spots so far, although Davidson can only finish 3rd or 4th, so they clinched a double-bye. UMass can only finish 3rd, 5th or 6th.

Whoa! St Joes is beating Richmond by 7 five minutes into the 2nd half.
