My guess (nothing to base it on) is that Frank is filling the roster with guys that bring different elements. The starters are more well rounded, but the guys he brings off the bench each will have at least one strong facet to their game.

A big who can shoot
A guard/wing who is a defensive stopper
A guard/wing who can get you points in a hurry
A PG who can break the press
A physical 4 who can defend and rebound

I could be way off on this but that's what I hope is happening. McCall pretty much had to take who he could get but Frank seems to have a plan.

I think you're right 69. Looks like he's building a well rounded roster. Really looking forward to this season

Anything from Adam Finkelstein about Rollie or Sawyer?

^ Haven't seen anything from Finkelstein. Here a note from Bergman on Mayhugh:
BREAKING: 2023 F/C
@SawyerMayhugh has committed to UMass 🚩 6-10, 220lbs. Weston, MA native.

💪 Strong frame & paint finisher, agressive rebound instincts
☄️ Stretch 4, exels in PnP
👐 Soft hands, vertical in transition
This from Jared Exler of NERR on Rollie:
Jared Exler@JExlerNERRHoops
2023 @ExeterHoop& @MiddlesexMagic guard Rollie Castineyra has clean shooting mechanics, makes threes on spot-up/pull-up attempts, and gets to his soft fifteen foot jumper when attacking closeouts.

I’m very high on Mayhugh.

I am clueless but still.

Might as well toss in notes on Ndjigue:
@_proinsight: Scouting Notebook📓⏩
@RiversAthletics open gym

‘23 Jayden Ndjigue is a competitive wing w/ great activity & toughness. Can finish around the rim & is an excellent defender. Showed well in this setting. Expect him to bring high-level energy and a winning mindset to @UMassMBB.
The 4th member of the 2023 class is Robert Davis, Jr. His video was posted earlier in this thread. He can fill it up from long distance.

The Castenyera description reminds me of Kenny Lofton.

After starting with a flurry of 4* recruits, the past few Frank has signed, in my mind are unimpressive. But I guess he knows more than I so time will tell
Seems almost like a rule, particularly for A10 teams, that nearly all recruits are 2*, but these schools attract 3* and 4* transfers. I think 11 A10 teams this year have at least 1 transfer rated above 2*. Exceptions are GW, La Salle, Richmond and Bona. The latter 2 have recruits >2* this year. Most A10 teams do NOT have any >2* recruits; exceptions are Fordham, GMU, St. Joe's, VCU and UMass.
This situation doesn't surprise me. A highly regarded recruit may join a P5/P6 school, be disappointed in his first year, and decide transferring into the A10 makes more sense than a lateral transfer. Sure it's a step down, but good chance they're joining an excellent program at a great school; beats limited playing time where they started.

Trust in Coach Martin.

This is exactly how I feel. We are used to getting 2/3 star players with mediocre/bad coaching. A 2/3 star player who can get coached up and improve each year or as the seasons progress, is worth exploring. We shouldn't be closed-minded and only rely on the stars some sites assign to these kids. Sprinkle some of the Cross/Thompson/Diggins kids who transfer down and we'll be just fine.

Robert Davis Jr did a vlog on his visit to Umass. Kid seems to have some confidence, nice thing to see. I wish we got to see behind the curtain a little more when it came to things like this.

Kolton Mitchell used to chronicle his days at UMass on YouTube. I can't say that I watched them all, but it was cool to see.

We have to remember with all the 2023 recruits they are still developing. They still have their senior year in HS to come. I suspect some will have higher recruiting rankings after their senior season.

For sure - excited to track their progress throughout their senior year season.

Seems like a phenomenal kid with an awesome family!

Also so awesome seeing a Ricky Harris cameo! Looks like Ricky is a recruiting ambassador. What an asset to have him in that role.

Also someone mentioned Kolton Mitchell used to Vlog his Mass days. I watched a couple and Kolton awesome seems like an unbelievable young man. Graduated in 3 years too. Best of luck to him. He's got a bright future ahead of him
