He's a good player, but he's 6'6 and right now we need bigs and a PG. If we end up needing a guy his size he would be OK.
2023 Recruiting
Re: 2023 Recruiting
My sense is that the staff is feeling out all local options as a backstop. I'm glad we're doing this.
We have just over 600 transfers, so far. Probably a thousand yet to come.
This big game of musical chairs is going to get really interesting, once the tournament is over. Coach movement will bring another wave.
I'm hoping Frank and the boys are very aggressive. Staff has experience recruiting and coaching in three distinct regions, mostly east of the Miss river.
I think the A10 has been perhaps the most negatively affected by the transfer portal rule changes. To be in the top of this conference, we need to be able to land some pieces in the transfer market. I don't have data to support, but it feels this way to me.
There seems to be a greater immediacy. Need players more than projects these days.

Who cares if he's 6'6 if he knows how to position himself and box out for rebounds. Fundamentals are key.
He averaged over 10 rebounds per game as a freshman, that tells me that his basketball IQ is there. Would love to see this kid at UMass, bring him on!

I think we probably saw the same tweet and the tweet said that Daniels will host UMass staff tonight - it did not say who.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 1:05 pm
Can you provide any further insight? When you say staff, which members are you referring to?

Scoop, he wasn't a freshman last year. He played two years of D2 ball at Montana State-Billings where he averaged 3.2 rpg in his freshman year. He's listed as a junior on the UNH site.inthescoop wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 1:30 pmWho cares if he's 6'6 if he knows how to position himself and box out for rebounds. Fundamentals are key.

Brain fart on my end. 1 year at UNH, does not mean he is a freshmanJuice Stand wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 1:58 pmScoop, he wasn't a freshman last year. And he had an in between year at Lake Region (ND) State College so I'm guessing that he would only be eligible for 1 more season. That's a bit unfortunate.

Re: 2023 Recruiting
Chico Carter Jr - PG from South Carolina entered the portal - would be a Grad Transfer. Transferred from Murray St and played 1 year for Frank and it was limited minutes so I doubt he would want to play for Frank again but I have no idea what their relationship was. Went from 9 minutes a game with Frank to almost 30 this past year so he's talented - 6'3 point guard and shot 47% from 3pt range - also shot over 40% from 3pt range while at Murray St. My guess is he was in Franks doghouse if he only played 9 minutes a game so Carter may have been happy to see him go - if I'm wrong and they had someone better ahead of him - he'd be a great pickup. Have not seen any mention that UMass is interest but just the fact he played for Frank caught my attention.

Ah ok, got it... thanks!
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

Kid had a lot of talent on team with Frank. Maybe he still likes Frank? I hope.

Graham Ike from Wyoming is in the portal. They made it to the dance and lost in first game. He was solid all year. Look at the stats...

^ That was last year, he got injured and didn't play this season.
Re: 2023 Recruiting
Oh, good catch. Wonder the extent of the injury.
Someone also asked about transfers out of Iona. They had a big, white kid who had appendicitis last year, who could be useful. I expect a lot more leaving Iona and St. John's.
Transfer market is still slow and mostly lower quality still. The big noise will start in a week, I think.
