"Little Rickie" being hired by Iona is embarrassing for both sides.
What a comeuppance for "Rickie", and he drags Iona in - what was Iona thinking? Borrowed prestige over ethics?

Good hire for Iona... I'm sure they're ok with not having him coach a half season (should that happen). Once they are past this, they'll be just fine and probably better than they have ever been.

Re: Pitino...
I hate this move by the NCAA. You’re punishing the current players and coaching staff for something Pitino did years ago. These punishments should be made instantaneously and not years after it occurred; NCAA slow as molasses, as usual.

Close......... Yes the NCAA is slow, no argument there.inthescoop wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 12:05 pm I hate this move by the NCAA. Those who are part of this should be on notice and under suspension until a verdict and full punishment is handed down. RP should never had the change to get that Iona job until this was all settled - which in fairness should have been done 2 years ago. If you handled it in that way, you force the NCAA to do something....
The reason they don't is because due process takes time and "what if the accused is actually innocent". That should expedite the Due Diligence process IMO, but that never seems to work that way.

Not that the NCAA is fast with anything they do, but their hands were likely tied here due to the FBI involvement. If you want some insight, check out the HBO documentary on the McDonald's Monopoly scandal.

Or check out the HBO doc The Scheme which shows this entire situation with great detail.
Re: Pitino...
Rick was in Providence today as part of a Friars roundtable event
https://www.thesunchronicle.com/sports/ ... d78b0.html
There's been varying accounts of how much he has been involved with us since he finished playing for us in 1974. He did serve on the search committee that recommended Calipari for our job in 1988, while coaching in-season for the Knicks.

So, of course, major points there.
Before and since then though? Someone chime in.
Seeing that Providence story made me think if Rick would participate in something similar in Amherst.

Just watched Iona advance. Relieved we didn’t bring in Pitino. Wouldn’t know how to root for a competitive program.
Re: Pitino...
Named MAAC Coach of the Year again today. Don't see him staying at Iona
Re: Pitino...
Rick will likely be the best available HC this cycle. So glad that we didn't dump McCall and hire Pitino in 2018..... We'd likely still be playing. It'll be interesting to see if St. John's fires Anderson and comes calling.

Re: Pitino...
Was surprised that one (1) Catholic school would hire someone with Pitino’s past …….will have to see if two (2) would.
Maybe a battle between St John’s and Georgetown!!
Re: Pitino...
1) Catholic schools like winning basketball games. 2) As Catholics, we are a church of sinners and there is no sin that cannot be forgiven. 3) Winning basketball games and increasing revenues = lots of forgivene$$TruBluMaroon wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 6:37 pmWas surprised that one (1) Catholic school would hire someone with Pitino’s past …….will have to see if two (2) would.
