Feel badly for Chatman. This weekend he looks like he has been away from the game for a long time. The team is still ahead of where I expected them to be, but they have a long way to go to be a consistent, good team. They’re freshmen. Also, St. John’s stopped sleep walking.

This game pissed me off.

10 assists, 17 turnovers. Plus, with Mitchell and Chatman out there, there's no excuse to give up so many offensive rebounds. Soft.

Yep, he is off. He was really bad on offense and when McCall put him in there to protect the boards, SJU crashed them hard and beat us.

Little sloppy the 2nd half. St. Johns played with a little more energy than us. Need to be a little more disciplined with the ball, but good showing against better competition. I think they might have been a little tired playing 2 games in 24 hrs.
Regroup and keep grinding

Gonna take Sy a bit to get in the groove. Looked to be trying to do too much all at once, and 2 games in such a short span is tough to come back to. Rotations were a little different than what they've been and we were just off a bit. Young team will make mistakes, but they'll be able to bounce back

Not the second half any of wanted but I remain very optimistic about this team. There's lots of room for improvement and I think we'll see it in the next couple of weeks.

When you play just wings there is....and bringing in two more fore next year isn’t exactly addressing the issue. And did you actually see Mitchell put a body on anybody when the shot went up?

Agree. Tough to let this one get away but over the next month or so these guys will get tougher and smarter. Looking forward to their development.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Tough loss. This is a young team that will only get better - there is a lot more to playing college basketball then athletic ability - it’s developing team chemistry and learning how to win by playing hard and smart. UMass has a great group of young players who need to know the fans appreciate them coming to UMass and being part of building this program back up. They are going to have to stay together as a team win or lose and hold their heads up and know we are behind them. What they’re doing is not easy and will take determination and patience. They are good and need to stay together and believe in one another. The A10 is extremely tough and once they get a team and program down it is brutal to climb your way back up - this group is special and a great foundation.
Coaching against a veteran like Mike Anderson isn’t easy his teams play hard for 40 minutes. All in all a learning experience for a very young team - hang in there and get the next one - you will win a lot more games during the next 4 years.

When these guys start to click in a couple of weeks we are going to be a pretty good team.

Welp that was definitely the second game in two days for both teams. Turnovers, missed free throws, lots of whistles, no rhythm out there. Had several chances to extend a couple of leads in the second half but couldn’t do it. Then St Johns made their move and we ran out of gas.

Sy looks completely lost out there on offense — hopefully he finds it here soon. It’s painful to watch him out there. He’s thinking when he just needs to go. East game back down to earth and Pierre’s stroke was nowhere to be found all weekend. That puts a lot of pressure on Tre and Weeks.

At any rate this one was discouraging but I try to temper that knowing it was their second game in two days and this a young team that will hopefully grow from it. Not a ton of positives to take from it though.

Agree 100% that it will take Sy a few games to get settled. Missed some close ones when we had a decent lead in the second half and never recovered. Can't lean on the 3's every game and with Sy coming back we should be able to close those out! Overall the team, mostly freshmen, is way ahead of where everyone thought they would be at this time in the schedule so I am looking at the glass half-full!

Yeah I’m still plenty optimistic. Just thought we played really sloppy today and lost a very winnable game. Plus it was not very well played game by either team.

Today was definitely a “coulda” won but not a “shoulda” won.

We saw glimpses of how good UMass can be as Tre matures.

For the most part I felt that more than anything else, tho weekend’s losses were the result of inexperience.

You know what goes well with a turkey sandwich?

A win at Rutgers.
