Re: 2022 Recruiting
Maybe, maybe not? We'll find out soon enough either way. Certainly wasn't a great look.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades
Re: 2022 Recruiting
Per VerbalCommits.com we have 30 open offers out there for 2022. They range from offers made in 2019 to offers made this month so they're probably not all valid. There will also be 1500+ transfers available (1750 this year).
When we get past covid (if we get past it) will the NCAA reverse policy and require transfers to sit out again? That will change the recruiting dynamic back to getting more freshmen and fewer transfers.

Also easily explained away. Assistant coach brought him in that coach was fired and we parted ways. Matthew’s was brought in to be tre’s backupNilesGold wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 9:52 amI doubt that's going to be a blemish on his ability to recruit. That sort of thing is somewhat common.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 7:50 amWell we had one frosh coming in this year.... but we kicked him to the curb. I doubt that will make things easy for McCall moving forward.UMassfan_19 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 9:54 pm
And hundreds will be available in the transfer market. Bring in two grad transfers and two freshman
Re: 2022 Recruiting
You can also look just a little further back at Jalen Thomas, when we had him signed and then we got Tre (and Tony). It happens.
By the way, Jalen's two years so far at Georgia State:
2019-20: 5.7 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 17.7 mpg, 32 games with 7 starts
2020-21: 10.1 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 27.9 mpg, 18 games with 16 starts, in their 22 game season

Re: 2022 Recruiting
Some news. Not earthshaking, but at least it has a positive spin:
Fight Massachusetts
@FightMA247
2022 UMass PG target Julian Brown (@JUELZABUCKET) has the Minutemen in his Top 6 released on Instagram earlier today
Penn State, Harvard, Princeton, Colgate and Wagner round out the group
Re: 2022 Recruiting
My top three wish list from the class of “22” would be Adam Dudzinski 6’8” F at Loomis Chaffee, Isaiah Earl 6’8” PF who I believe is at Commonwealth Academy in Springfield now and Silas Sunday 6’10 C Our Savior Lutheran NYC.
Even though we have an abundance of guards and swing players I see Tyriek Weeks coming and I would be happy to see him join, his game continues to improve. The Weeks family would then officially be the First Family of UMass basketball. I think we will see some flight from the guard/swing pool of talent at the conclusion of this season.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
Those are exactly the type of Top 4's we want to be a part of. We need more recruits that choose UMass and have P5 offers as well, that is the recipe for success.UMassfan_19 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 11:55 pm Made another top4 https://twitter.com/thech0sen0ne_/statu ... 27520?s=21
Would love to get this kid!
Not sure how much love UMass fans still give to recruits on Twitter, but man, I will never forget how the Twitter crew went all out for Deeky and Brison and got them to choose UMass over UMiami; that was epic.

Yeah I think something else led them to choose us over Miamiinthescoop wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 10:28 amThose are exactly the type of Top 4's we want to be a part of. But all in all, Deeky is a very ME type of guy, his image means a lot to him, he has a big personality, and he knew that he can be the face of UMass instantly. Something that instantly would not happen at Miami. I think that was the biggest factor at the end of the day.
Re: 2022 Recruiting
Anyone got any intel on Menifield?
Re: 2022 Recruiting
He had recent offers from SLU and SBU. We're in his top 4 and they aren't. I like that. Here's a brief video (the usual disclaimer - it's a highlight video):

Re: 2022 Recruiting
He's got a good handle, passes well, and uses his body well thru contact. Be a nice addition to follow up Noah and JG.
