2022 Recruiting
Re: 2022 Recruiting
Look at other A10 teams on VC. They are loaded with bigs.
Greg Jones didn't play the 5 much, if at all.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
Never said Greg was a 5. But he could hold his own on the boards. My point was you don't have to have all your 4 & 5 spots to be 6-11. Lou Roe was 6-5, Harper 6-7, Freeman & Lasme 6-9 & 6-8. Its great if you have 2-3 that can play but I'll take a Freeman or Ty Weeks or Harper every day of the week.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
A10 seems to have more bigs for the 2022-23 season than in previous years. Only teams with <3 that I can think of are UMass, Fordham and La Salle. Not the company to keep. Lots of A10 quality bigs returning, such as Okuro, Obinna, and Oduro. Maybe we need 1 who has a name that starts with O
Re: 2022 Recruiting
I don't disagree. That's why I'm interested in Liddell at 6-8. I also mentioned the kid from LIU. He's no 5 but he rebounds.Floyd wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 5:00 pm Never said Greg was a 5. Your point is well taken tho. Should anything major happen to WL & Woodley, we would be thin up front.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
I'd settle for someone at the level of Baptiste. His offense was limited but he could be intimidating on D under the basket. In the mismanaged MM defense he had Djery chasing the opposing center out to the foul line inviting back door cuts, etc., wasting his talents.
Re: 2022 Recruiting
Of course. I'm not suggesting we just add anyone.
The 6-10 and above people in the portal right now look pretty awful.
Personally, I'd like to see us add a big, wing, and a ball-handler. I'm just seeing less and less options as far as people over 6-7 200 pounds that can rebound. I don't see the rent-a-center I'd like to give us depth against an A10 that has way more size than us.
I'm tired of us not rebounding. It is so painful to watch year after year.
I also don't see how we'd have productive 5 on 5 practices if a single one of our forwards gets hurt. Our walk-on players seem to be more D2 level guys.
What I will say is that, because Frank has brought in all these 3 and 4 star guys - more than we have had since Cal - we should be able to complement that talent with two or more guys who are functional 2 star type D1 players that can do maybe one thing really well and is just okay in other areas. That is, if they have experience. That's the one thing we really seem to lack.
I'm really hoping Deyondre can improve his defense this year. He improved last year, compared to his freshman year. But he was still a liability when he was in the game last year and was useless in conference play. If you look at video of him this summer, he doesn't seem to have bulked up. as far as I can see. I really hope this is the year he blossoms because we are likely going to have to use him. But he's still going to get pushed around. He's a 6-9 guy that can't guard the 5 or 4 - maybe even the 3. He's no Dibaji.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
I agree with those that aren't comfortable moving forward with the roster as is. The talent is there, but it's only 10 bodies, 2 of which are freshmen and I'm still not sure what to think of Dyondre. Injuries, fouls, academic issues, etc; we need a couple more guys. I'm pretty happy with the size we have (Wildens 6'10", Woodley 6'8", Gianni 6'8", Cross 6'7", Dyondre 6'9", and TJ at 6'4" is an excellent rebounder). I think we're actually a little thin at the guard and shooter spots now that we've lost Garcia, Rich and CJ Kelly. We know what we have in Noah and TJ, but Rahsool, RJ Luis, and Keon Thompson are question marks at this point. Two freshmen and a transfer that barely played at UConn. Keon looks like he'll be a good athlete and a plus defender, but all of the highlights they showed on that signing show were dunks. Can he shoot?
It was interesting to hear Jay Burnham say multiple times, whether directly or in a roundabout way, that there was more to come.

Keon shot 40% from 3 in prep this past seasonJuice Stand wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 9:39 am I agree with those that aren't comfortable moving forward with the roster as is. Re: 2022 Recruiting
slight correction, maybe. Loyola seems to also only have 2 true bigs. Of course, they didn't become officially part of the conference until todaybobolink wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 5:40 pm A10 seems to have more bigs for the 2022-23 season than in previous years. Regarding GG Jackson, I'm putting this in the 2022 thread instead of the 2023 thread. Here's my wildly speculative/conspiracy theory take:
Now we know why Frank has not filled all of the slots for 2022.Jamie Shaw

NEW Intel: Will GG Jackson de-commit from UNC? Has reclassification talk resurfaced?

Re: 2022 Recruiting
Didn't realize he was still out there and didn't realize he had such a poor year at Western Kentucky last season. I seen him play at DePaul his junior season and he can definitely keep up in the A10 - would be a solid addition.DoctorJ wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 6:36 pm This dude started in the Big East and is still out there.
