The fact that it has to be reported that Tony is not tagging along in another nepotism coattails deal is disturbing and sad. Tre's college career could have so great and prolific if he had better guidance and cut the cord from him from a basketball perspective.MikeUMA wrote: ↑Fri May 13, 2022 2:16 pmZags is reporting that Tony is not part of the equationPreecherJenkins wrote: ↑Fri May 13, 2022 10:10 am No word if step daddy Tony has been put on the payroll

Be Thankful for the nepotism coattails because Tre never shows up to UMass if our former coach does not give a two for one deal.fenway617 wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 10:38 amThe fact that it has to be reported that Tony is not tagging along in another nepotism coattails deal is disturbing and sad. Why should we be thankful about what Tre Mitchell brought to UMass? One full season, one Covid season, and then he’s gone. He has talent, but there is nothing particularly memorable about his time in Amherst. Had he stayed, maybe we’d be talking a UMass great. Maybe. But he didn’t, and the defining feature of his time here (and Texas) can be boiled down to one word: hype. Once you get past that, there are at least a hundred more dudes who have played at UMass that we should be thankful for.PreecherJenkins wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 11:06 am Be Thankful for the nepotism coattails because Tre never shows up to UMass if our former coach does not give a two for one deal.
JoLeon there is nothing to be thankful for, simply used the wrong word, but nepotism is the reason the guy ever showed up or looked at umass , think we can all agree on that fact. You are right about hype, the people on this board have hyped this guy up to be a top 5 nba draft pick. He could not even get UMass to an a-10 semi, let alone an NIT or NCAA appearance. What did the year at Texas show? How average he is when he is not playing against La Salle and Fordham.JoleonLescottsHair wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 11:23 amWhy should we be thankful about what Tre Mitchell brought to UMass? It's debatable but a case can be made that UMass hoops would have been better off had he never set foot on campus. And Tre may have been better off as well.PreecherJenkins wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 11:06 amBe Thankful for the nepotism coattails because Tre never shows up to UMass if our former coach does not give a two for one deal.fenway617 wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 10:38 amThe fact that it has to be reported that Tony is not tagging along in another nepotism coattails deal is disturbing and sad. So you were not a fan of the Florida, Diamond etc.. defensive signs.69MG wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 2:34 pm For me, it's a conundrum (whew, the biggest word I've used in a long time). At this point I could care less where he goes or how well he does.
However, I cannot dismiss the enjoyment I had watching him play. Yes, he was not great on D, but some of that was the STUPID defense that Bergeron
implemented. They tried all sorts of dumb full court presses that left Tre under the basket to guard 2 guys coming down the court uncontested. He isn't quick enough to do that.
On the offensive side, I loved watching him carve up URI, SLU, VCU and Dayton and their all A10 centers.
This will be my last comment on Tre unless by some freak of nature he ends up in the A10 again.
Helpful clarification, and I agree.PreecherJenkins wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 1:47 pm JoLeon there is nothing to be thankful for, simply used the wrong word, but nepotism is the reason the guy ever showed up or looked at umass…
and at least in part, due to this, we now we have a new COACH!
Won't last past the first media timeout in game 1.JoleonLescottsHair wrote: ↑Fri May 13, 2022 9:32 pmI wonder how long Tre’s mom will be able to hold off before she starts giving Huggins coaching advice?
