Big 10 is all about SIZE underneath. Illinois would be ill-suited to have him at 5. I really see him at 3, perhaps 4 in that conference.

The thing is, the best part of his game are his post moves. Plus I just don't see him defending a 3 and possibly a 4 in that conference.

I've been saying this all along too. So I agree.uz2b-len wrote: ↑Sun Apr 25, 2021 8:48 pm How about this benign explanation for Tre leaving? It's all about the change in the transfer rule. The original plan was 3 yrs, right? He was gonna play here three years and the go pro or maybe grad transfer, in order to get his step-father a career breakthrough. But once they changed the transfer rule, really no longer any reason to stick around. Plus their house burned down. (My previous benign theory.)

That's a good theory but it isn't accurate.

He left because he didn't feel he could develop under McCall. I have posted this already.

Re: KAEO: Tre Mitchell
What exactly does that mean? He thinks McCall can't help him develop his individual skills, or his team-based skills? A lot of that comes down to the assistant coaches, so does he think Tony is insufficient? Is it the competition in practices or games that's lacking?InnervisionsUMASS wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 2:12 pm He left because he didn't feel he could develop under McCall. I have posted this already.

I actually kind of feel bad for the kid. Bergeron is a slime ball to me until someone gives me a reason to think otherwise.
Re: KAEO: Tre Mitchell
Probably a situation that Bergeron had one opinion on how he should develop and improve his skills and McCall had a different opinion. The person who he lives with gets the last word and more influence. I'd imagine it was not the best situation for any of the three of them clashing over this situation.NilesGold wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 2:55 pmWhat exactly does that mean? Re: KAEO: Tre Mitchell
Looking from the outside, hard to not think this all was a move to get Tony the HC job. If he did, would Tre still be leaving?
Seems Bamford wasn't about anyone dictating coaching moves.

Re: KAEO: Tre Mitchell
The rationale of not developing enough at Umass/under MM seems straightforward to me, as long as he ends up at a big time school.
I agree that if you're talented enough the NBA will find you (Dame Lillard, etc). But what if you aren't quite good enough? What if you're a step slow and not quite strong enough (like Tre is IMO)? I think playing on Illinois (or other similar P5 schools) is going to get you closer to the NBA than playing at UMass, provided that you're given a similar role/playing time.
Maybe he goes to a big school and it doesn't go his way and this decision looks foolish in hindsight, which is definitely possible. But I think it's worth the risk to take the leap if you're trying to hit your ceiling.

Re: KAEO: Tre Mitchell
He also might be thinking that if he goes to a good P5 team he won't be doubled or tripled all the time so he might look better. Also, if the team is better defensively it might mask any weaknesses he has on D. Of course, the NBA scouts will probably figure this out.
