UConn losing $40M a year on sports - cut sports?

Wasn't meant to be a shot at econ, was just throwing out popular degree tracks.

I think I can speak for most here when I say Fuck Uconn - I hope they go bankrupt in all their sports programs....

is the athletic department a business?InnervisionsUMASS wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 7:50 am The Commonwealth subsidies the whole University. That's sort of the point of public higher education. Nitpicking the athletic department, a miniscule portion of the overall budget, is for blowhards like Shank. Don't stoop to that level.

At UMass? No, it's a government entity.

I was being literal. It sure as hell is looked at as if it were a business, of course.
The point is that success will bridge the budget gap but it is extremely unlikely it will ever end up even or at a profit. It's almost always going to remain subsidized. Scrutinizing that doesn't make a lot of sense unless you have an axe to grind against the department or University overall.

Yep, all good. I agree with your observations. Just wasn't sure which line we were towing here...

Ha. I had an initial response written about the NCAA turning it into a business, but then decided to have fun with it and just be as literal as possible.
