Freddie Riley joined the pod and it was the longest episode in podcast history by a long shot. Touches on this board a decent amount. Enjoy. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/u ... 0477512189

Listened to the Freddie podcast Marty, pretty good. Freddie really was candid about his time at UMass and I thought he really matured in his time here. I would love to see Freddie back at a UMass game, I think he would get a warm response from the fanbase. Appears to be doing well

Ricky Harris would be a good candidate to hear from. Had a very good career at UMass and developed quite a bit in his 4 years. One of my favorite players

FYI - Sage is likely going to have Steve Lappas on soon, so keep an eye out. Like him or not, this should be a good listen and provide some insight into the early 2000s.

I have zero problem with Steve Lappas. His teams weren't very good, although his final year would be considered a pretty solid year by today's standards. He also brought us Freeman and Lasme, for which I will be eternally grateful.

I don't know any of the politics behind his hiring, firing, or anything in between, but I enjoyed watching the Freeman/Lasme duo tremendously.

I spoke to a person who was on the search committee and he told me that they were ready to vote on I think Mccaferry but they got a phone call from the then president, Boulger ?, and they were told that Lappas was to be the new coach.

He interviewed Cal, so I'd start there.

You should be able to find them on Spotify or whichever service you utilize.

It seems like he doesn't do the podcast very often these days. The last one was on Sept 24? He didn't do a season preview and I'm not expecting an A10 preview prior to the St Louis game. I guess I can't be too disappointed, he's just a fan like all of us and does this as a passion project on the side, not a full time gig.

Looking forward to hearing Lappas speak about those years. I still remember him visiting a sport management class after the Oregon win and the 4-0 start. After listening to him ramble on about nothing I knew we would lose the next home game to Holy Cross. It’s amazing cbs hired that guy as a color commentator.

And just as soon as I say that he doesn't do many podcasts anymore, he comes out with an absolute cracker. He did indeed get coach Lappas. Good work, Sage.

Great interview by Sage. A very candid Lappas which was great to hear. One questionable thing Lappas said, he thought Big Deli was going to be a very college player. Not sure on that take! A good stroll down memory lane though. I remember that 4-0 start his first year, I road tripped with a couple buddies down to Raleigh for the NC State win. Great time and memory. All in all, I like how real and genuine Lappas still is and never realized he was such a passionate guy.
