The extra year for COVID is optional. I assume Garza is declaring for the NBA draft. Is that not what's happening?

That's exactly what is happening.

Sorry, Garza was a bad example. But anyways, for Garza, it’s also more that he wouldn’t play for a program outside of Iowa. I found my answer:

“Biggest misinformation floating out there is that seniors will have the option to stay and play at their current program.

Not such the case, eligibility is available for a 4th year senior this year, can go elsewhere and play their 5th year. Good and Bad for some seniors.”

All in all, you need to be wanted by another program to be a senior playing a 5th year.

What? That's not correct. Richmond alone has 3 seniors who have played for 4 years (including 1 who had a 5th year as a redshirt) at Richmond all coming back for a 5th year. Cayo, Gilyard, and Golden.

Is it because they have the available roster/scholarship spots for them? Sorry, this whole thing has got me a bit confused.

Steadman left the Montana program in early February; seems like he was set on transferring and not continuing at Montana.

If a senior comes back for a 5th year next season they don't count against that team's scholarship limit.

If you transfer to a different school then you do.

^Got it. That source I posted seems to have got it all wrong and this is available for all seniors if it’s not counted against the scholarship limit.

Unpopular opinion but Garza should have stayed and broke all the NCAA records, don’t think he’ll be good in the NBA and has a chance to go undrafted.

^ This mock draft agrees with you

Garza not listed

Interestingly, VCU's Bones Hyland as 2nd round 1st pick

Good for him. It should read UMass/Rice by the way.

That's awesome, good for him. Carl always struck me as a high character, intelligent player. I'd love to see him back here in some role when his playing days are over.

Good for Carl, wish him the best. Incredible that a kid with what, 1 D1 offer, came to UMass, had a very nice career and now gets a shot at his hometown pro organization. Kudos to him
