Now that Carl has entered his name in the transfer portal and we know for sure that he isn't coming back, I figured I'd post in the CP thread. I don't blame him one bit for leaving. He's accomplished a lot in his 4 years at UMass, both in terms of basketball and academics. It's time for a change of scenery and I'm sure he'll be successful wherever he lands. If that's at a lower level where he can play a lot of minutes, or as a role player on a potential tournament team. Mr. UMass, he'll always be welcome back on campus and I hope to see him in the stands at the Mullins over the years.

Perhaps he'll go to UMass Lowell. That way he can still be Mr. UMass and be on a team with a shot at a championship.

Certainly wasn't expecting to see this news last night. I figured he'd move on to try and play professionally or return... didn't even cross my mind that he might grad transfer. Good for him and I'm happy for him in whatever he does. The kid was a rock and while he didn't improve as much as we thought he would after what we saw from him early on, he's been the most consistent thing for this program since the Chaz days.

With that said, him not returning is still best case scenario... he played a ton of minutes and it is time for TJ to get the bulk of those.

Thought you could only play 4 years? Does he get an extra because of covid?

Thanks Upstate. So even with the 5 to play 4, you still get to play 5 because of covid?

Yupp. So in theory TJ could stay for six years since last season went in the books as a redshirt year and this season didn’t count as a year of eligibility.

Headed to Rice. I’ll be paying attention, appreciate what Carl gave to the program.

Carl will be joining former hs teammate Travis Evee. To bad Evee wasn’t joining Carl here.
