Bob Marcum

Post by DS Bruce Robertson » Wed Mar 19, 2014 9:21 pm

I'm just taking this opportunity to remind everyone who cares about the University Of Massachusetts that Bob Marcum is the absolute worst person who was ever hired to work for it. Every single second of UMass' tournament absence between the end of the St. Louis game in '98 and tip off on Friday is his fault.

Please, please, please never lose sight of how much Bob Marcum's terrible decisions and the decisions that were put upon the Department because he was so ineffective to prevent them have hurt UMass athletics and the University in general in the past 20 years.

Imagine what life would be like for people who care about UMass if someone effective were hired instead of him in 1993.

In summation: While celebrating where are, just remember that Bob Marcum singlehandedly dug the hole we're just now crawling out of.

I guess I'll ask since I didn't follow the program as closely back then. What did Marcum do that was so bad? According to Berkman the Lappas hire wasn't his doing.

Some of us of a certain age remember Frank McInerney ... I'll take Marcum over McInerney any day of the year.

NASCAR Bob had his faults - seemingly beyond count. Frank was in a class all his own. Nice guy - clueless about university athletics. He made it possible for the Marcum Madness. Rest in peace, Frank. You tried. By God you tried the patience UMass fans.

I really don't get the point of blasting Marcum at this point. Not disagreeing that he was bad for UMASS but why bring it up now?

Can't we just celebrate where we are now.

Many newer fans never heard of Marcum and it is just old news. IMHO

Cause and affect...

Umass is back in the tourney for the first time in 16 years.... There is a reason that we waited 16 years.....

Yes but failed miserably in capitalizing on it or the basketball success.
