Funny how some on this board (aka Swamp-ass) were quick to give me shit for saying that McCall was still trying to change the culture this season away from what Kellogg had cultivated over the 9 years he was here. I think the fact Franklin goes out of his way to “specially thank” Kellogg by name shows he still had some sort of influence over the players that were still here from his tenure, and based off Franklins parting comments he clearly didn’t feel the same sense of respect for the current staff

^ I'm fairly certain I've never seen or heard anyone question Kellogg's relationships/ties with his players. If anything, Kellogg was often referred to as a "player's coach". There was a number of things to criticize about Kellogg's teams, but I don't recall that being one of them.

I think you missed the point. Earlier in the year I had said that it’s going to take McCall more than a season to undo what Kellogg created in the 9 years he was here especially when there are still players of his here to which Swampy said “let me guess FIRE KELLOGG right? Cmon man Kellogg is gone and so is any influence he might have had” I think these comments show that Kellogg does still have an influence on his former guys and it might have been a harder road than we thought for McCall to change the culture of this team...seeing as a players first reaction is to thank a former coach while completely leaving out the coach that he is actually playing for

Or maybe he was thanking Kellogg for giving him a chance to be part of the program as a fellow local kid out of Springfield. He never even actually played for Kellogg but was a manager with the promise for a chance to walk on when a spot opened up. And for whatever reason it didn’t work out for him under McCall.

This is a very weird thing to puff out your chest and take a victory lap over.

I mean...fuck...this place is so weird.

I don’t remember...he was a walk-on...did his status change to being on a scholarship?

This is being taken to way too high a level. He's a Springfield kid who Kellogg helped out by giving him a PWO offer. He knew his chances of seeing the court were going to be few and far between but he was a good teammate and good in the locker room. When DK left, it altered the situation for him, maybe more than anyone else on the team. That's why he thanked DK by name. Nothing more, nothing less.

I don't think anyone is taking issue with the fact that he thanked Kellogg. I myself found it a bit odd that he didn't thank McCall or any of the current staff either. I don't think recognizing that is weird at all.

What about coming back to swing your dick around about being "right" that fixing the culture with the program is akin to the challenges faced by the folks who landed on the Mayflower because a walk on didn't thank the current coach in his goodbye message -- is that weird?

preffered walk on... pretty much says we can't give you any money but enroll in the school and we'll give you a roster spot. Nothing is guaranteed though... Buddy got one for baseball and coach told him to go home on day one

Not sure why this is getting under your skin... all I was trying to do was point out that it was deemed “ridiculous” to even consider that aspects of Kellogg’s culture were still in place with this team and yet a Kellogg player went out of his way to thank a coach who hasn’t been here for 2 years now and left out the coach who he actually played for, who btw could have just as easily told Franklin to get lost but decided to honor the walk-on spot that was promised him.

I’m not saying 100% this proves that Kellogg still had some influence over the players that he brought here but but I definitely don’t think it’s ridiculous to act like it’s not a possibility after Franklins comments

A. I thought you were being dickish in how you brought it up. And your post made it seem like you think it is more than a “possibility” — it seemed like you were laughing at all the morons who disagreed with you.

B. I do think it’s a bit ridiculous when we are talking about a local kid from the same town as Kellogg who clearly had a connection with him. When we are talking about a kid who didn’t play very much so I don’t know much he could affect the culture, especially on the court. And when we have no idea what happened behind the scenes, especially this past year when he was away from the team for awhile. He had seemed like a really good kid who was happy to be part of the program.

I guess that’s why it got under my skin, but if you were just merely broaching the possibility that the culture was so bad because the kid didn’t thank McCall in his post, then I humbly apologize.
