Game 11 - Tennessee

Post by MikeUMA » Sat Jan 03, 2004 6:25 pm

UMass up 1 at the break, 27-26.

The good: Gabe Lee with 12 points.
The bad: UT's double team is taking Ray Ray out of the game, 1-5 from the floor so far. Luckily Gabe is picking up the slack.
The ugly: 14 UM turnovers so far.

I would also add Maxwell to the good. Couple nice 3's. Hopefully Lappas can find a way to get Freeman in the mix.

More stats at the half:
FTs: UM 2-4, UT 9-10
Rebs: Total: UT up 21-19. Off: UT up 10-5.

MoMax, as CHM pointed out, is also off to a good start. 3-5 from the floor including 2-2 from 3 land.

Artie is struggling again. 0 points on 3 missed shots, 4 TOs.

1. Can't defend the 3 (or the perimeter).
2. Can't shoot the 3.
3. Can't get in position to rebound.
4. Can't hold onto the ball.
5. Maxwell needs to play all the time.

They look like they're on the verge of doing something but they need a push over the hump. Lappas looks too terrified to figure out how to do it.

The UT run to start the 2nd frame was 16-4.

Bright spot continues to be Gabe. He just threw down a dunk over a defender. Highlight material.

Lappas gets T'd his expression was like a kid caught with his hand in the candy jar...

yep someone needs to push this team over the hump; VIgs goes off for 22 on Tuesday; Lee with what 23 today...but both L's because no one else helped out enough...

and as always, live by the 3, die by the 3...

Another extyremely winnable game goes into the loss column.

Very impressed with Lee's game and Maxwell's play.
I think Artie Bowers needs to sit and watch a few games. Either his ankle is still bothering him or he is totally out of synch.

The 14 first half turnovers were atrocious. Cut those in half and the Minutemen nay have had a 10 point lead at the half.

Very well-timed T by Lappas. Hmmmm, the lead is under 10, so I think I will get a T to put them back up by double digits.

5-6 in pre-conference play with a cupcake schedule. Thank God the first few conference games are against teams that UM should beat. However, I have learned my lesson when it comes to this "should" stuff.

Rows of empty seats, more turnovers than are served at Bubs Bar-B-Q and an apathetic student body. If this was a corporation Chap 11 papers would begun to be filled out. Someone needs to do something. ESPN did us a favor by draggin the Lou Roe highlights out of the vault in Bristol but that is all I can hang my hat on right now. I am going to destroy some furniture now. Have a good night!!! GO COWBOYS !!!!

Do you want credit for putting one positive sentence into your usual negativity?

How was this game "extremely" winnable? Yeah, we had some opportunities and our TOs killed us, but we were the 'dogs and our best player was taken out of his game.

Look, I'm not going to pretend everything's peachy, cause obviously it's not. But I get frustrated with the constant bitching about how everything sucks.

Our starting five should be AA, Max, Jeff, Ray and Lee. The others should be used to rest the starters and to give fouls when needed. The other players need to find their game at practice or when they come off the beach. If these five can't carry us we aren't going anywhere as things are now.
They may not be great, but they won't be boring!

This team is bad period. However this team could be better if they did not play as many guys, we have no depth and Lasme is not very good,

I am sorry for the negativity but its fraustrating as hell watching these guys. Give me Pugh, Jenkins, Wilson, Lasme, Briggs, vs this starting 5and we'll see who wins.

They rebounded. They played decent defense. They didn't quit. All in all a vast improvement over most of the Lappas era.
