Rebranding this thread for all conference realignment activity that could potentially impact UM Hoop

ESPN this am:
Meetings on BE bball schools perhaps trying to take the BE brand and go separate ways, with perhaps raids on A10 Catholic schools.

This article does a good job explaining why I don't think that's viable - http://www.bigeastcoastbias.com/2012/10 ... ll-schools

Basically, as much as these teams would love to get into some big Catholic-only league that removes the football schools from their league, they'd be costing themselves millions of dollars a year they get from staying with the football teams. College football games are worth many times more to cable providers than even elite college basketball is.

Maybe they take their 2/3's majority until June 1 (if they have it and Temple doesn't get a vote) and try to bring in like 4 basketball schools - Xavier, Temple, Creighton, etc, but hating Tulane alone isn't reason enough to break away and give up $3-4 million per year per school.

I think it's completely viable for the Catholic schools to split off and raid the a10 IF they can keep the brand name and don't have to pay exit fees. If that's the case, look for us to land somewhere else.

That would cost them millions of dollars a year in TV revenue. I realize they're not public institutions, but I have a hard time seeing those schools deciding that's a good idea once they talk to any TV people about potential rights fees for a basketball-only league.

1 Conference. 20 Teams. 2 divisions. That's what the A-10 is all about.

A 21 team league would be insane... The level of talent would be phenomenal though

I'd rather deal with a 21-team A10 than - with all due respect to our new football partners - go to the MAC for all sports.

This conference shuffle has become so stupid. There are no longer conferences. Just scheduling pools. UMass upgrading and going MAC in football was depressing enough. But to watch this absurd "strategic" game around super conferences is just pathetic. What makes college sports special is basically gone.

Why not just make it a 17 team league and drop Duquesne, St. Bonnie, La Salle, Fordham? Those teams no positively nothing for the league's overall footprint. 17 team league, play each time once and have 16 teams make the conference tourney in Brooklyn. Unbelievable.

Can't only leave on team out for the tourney, at least 12 team tourney. But I agree with getting rid of the bottom of the A-10
